Even though I am Korean, it is also difficult for me to call employees in a busy kbbq. I call them many times but it didn't seem they hear me. Also, I rang the bell several times but they didn't come.ㅠㅠ After my friend shouted a few times in a very loud voice with waving hands, then the employee came to take our order. After that, I avoid the bbq reastaurant that looks too busy. If I really have to go to the reataurant like this video, I tried to avoid the busy hours at least. Personally, the kbbq restaurant that is not too busy but has good review and reasonable price is the best rather than popular restaruant like tourist destination.

In place where I live in czechia is one korean restaurant. We wanted to really try it with my boyfriend but every time we went in they told us that there is some private party even tho there was nobody in here. Later I found out that they don't let anyone in unless they are Asian. Even tho you came with Asian friend they will tell you that there is only one seat left and they grab the Asian friend inside. Don't know if it's some Korean thing but Vietnamese and Japanese restaurants aren't like that.

Some Japanese restaurants can be like that, there's this Japanese sushi shop in my town and I'm not sure if they're racist only towards darker skinned people or just people who don't look like they have a lot of money, but I came in once with my Hispanic boyfriend and I am white, but we just dress really casual and it was a nice restaurant. My boyfriend didn't order sushi but just a drink and I ordered sushi, they came around 5 minutes later and awkwardly told my boyfriend that the next time he comes in and only orders a drink, he had to either sit at the bar in the corner closest to the wall, or leave so he doesn't take up space. Not only is that weird to say because if the restaurant was busy and I was sitting by myself and there was an empty seat next to me, I wouldn't want a stranger sitting at my table. There was also no one there except us, at all, just us. The owner of the restaurant was staring at us the whole time while he made our sushi, and then after we were done eating I was so offended for my boyfriend, but he didn't want to say anything, so I ended up doing something maybe not so great...but its because it had been lile the 3rd time I've been either treated like shit in the restaurant or someone I know has. I left a tip once and it wasn't enough, so the owner chased me car down in the parking lot as I was leaving and yelled at me saying it was only 2 $ and that wasn't enough. So after me and my boyfriend were done and I was paying, I didn't tip and I signed the receipt "fuck you" instead of my name, and then we just left. He also chased down my car again and yelled at me to never come back, but tbh I wasn't going to anyways or else I wouldn't have written that on the receipt 😂😶

Happened to me while eating at a KBBQ well reputed in Paris for my partner’s birthday. We were particularly nice and tried our best to be pleasant customer and I even got ahead and reserved the table in advance. The owner was a sweetheart with us but the staff was pretty cold and ignore us most of the time. :( I start wondering if it was because we looked too “colored” to them my mom is especially dark skin too. We didn’t had all the side dishes that was supposed to be on the menu we choose. I mean not every Korean is like that OBVIOUSLY, but I have seen other review on Google after this and apparently black customer has been ignore or denied the entry too with fake arguments. This is very sad because I love Korean food and my family was so happy and eager to taste it for the first time :/ I hope it will not ruin the business too because honestly the owner was so nice a true angel.

yall i literally work at a korean restaurant and it is the scariest thing ever. majority of the waiters are (non-korean) asian or black/hispanic (only 2 koreans work in the front) everyone in the back(kitchen) is korean, like straight outta korea type thing they can barely speak english. We have ONE white person throughout the whole thing and he works in the back. having korean customers is especially scary because my (korean) boss expects us to go above and beyond for korean customers(providing them with raddish &’ chopsticks) when in reality i see everyone the same and feel they should be treated just how i treat everyone else 😭. It feels a little racist to try and guess weather a group of people are korean or not and giving them special treatment based off of that. its so weird, and the (korean) customers are usually super super nice we do get the occasional rude/xenophobic (typically)older couple but i feel you’ll find racism wherever u go so i don’t mind it much ofc. Idk if it's just south east Asian thing. But if your from the some country in my case Vietnamese they start a conversation with you, give you a whole recommendation, give you extra stuff on the house, maybe lower the price etc. And overall a nicer to you. Literally the manager of a restaurant complained to us that we should have imeaditly told him that we were Vietnamese so that he could treat us nicer. The exact same thing happened to me when I wanted to do a spicy noodle challenge with my western friends an wanted to ask for a recommendation in German before I switched to my broken Vietnamese and the treatment changed drastically (my skin is pretty light for a Vietnamese person)
@gavriel52912 жыл бұрын
I'm basing this on my similar experience as a south east asian but in most Asian restaurants, you can't be too polite with ordering or else the servers won't hear you. Like instead of "Hi, excuse me?", in Korean they say "저기요!" Meaning "Here!". Essentially, you gotta hustle and shout to be heard, or else they won't regard you. It isn't because you're not korean.

@sasavlog032 жыл бұрын
In Asian stores, you usually just walk up to the receptionist and ask. Especially at a BBQ restaurant. Everything is sizzling and the vents were loud - practically impossible for us to get to you unless you yell. Which is impossible, again, cause you’re just gonna look plain rude now lol. For things like fallen spoons, you can just walk up to one of them. I worked there once and I couldn’t hear anyone calling for me; just those who are waiting for a table, needed a table cleared, or has just placed their butt on the chair and needed to order. So sorry that everyone felt ignored, but we really can’t hear you. I asked my co-workers about it and they said the same - it was too loud for us to hear any soft calling like these.

I used to live in Korea and some places were really friendly and accommodating to foreigners and some places had signs on the windows flat out refusing to serve foreigners :'). My dad told me before we moved there that after we returned to America we would have a much greater appreciation for what foreigners go through and he was absolutely right.

Speaking from personal experience, this is very much true! I've definitely seen other Koreans or white people (even when they don't speak korean) get preferential treatment at Korean restaurants. I feel like older Koreans are more prone to act this way compared to the younger generation. It's low-key disheartening, it makes me feel like they don't want people of other cultures experiencing their food.
@ivanaperez87762 жыл бұрын
I've seen it happen to(with different ethnicities) and have experience it plenty of times for example when I see someone in their work setting wanting to favor me because they assume I speak Spanish I just lie saying I don't know Spanish at all (obviously really rude )but I don't like or wanted people to feel awkward if they can visually see I'm getting treated better because I'm from their ethnic group it doesn't look right in my opinion but with korean restaurants where I go to enjoy korean food the Staff is really nice but also u do see the customers eating there and they are all from different cultures I only go to one now because I have a toddler they adore her to the point they bring her out her own bowls of food for just her without us even asking or even charging us extra for they are sweet and very attentive and patient (we have seen it when they get a bad customer bless their hearts for still being super kind)

No, they mostly racist with black and "poor" country. They like white people. And older korean are very racist compared to the gen Z(even though still mostly racist) but older is not way better
@ne32182 жыл бұрын
lmao yeah they treat white people better/they’re friendlier to them. i live in hk and it’s pretty much similar except a bit more diversified . so like i work in an english cafe and it’s mandatory to scan the restaurant qr code and vaccine pass on the phone that’s placed on the counter. the camera is clearly showing us (the workers) which means they have to use the back camera to scan the vaccine pass and i was tryna explain this to this chinese woman and she just didn’t understand at all. Like use your damn eyes and brains, so many people get angry that their vaccine passes couldn’t be scanned. I was pointing at the back camera and even put the finger so she knows where she has to place her phone and i was getting sick of the it and this european girl says like “you put it at the back” and she automatically understands it and starts laughing with her while she was annoyed with us. like wtf

It’s nothing wrong with shouting in Asian restaurants I’m Korean and actually when the staff is Korean and we always say “EXCUSE ME WAITRESS” or “HERE” very loud but if it’s in the west we say it in English because unlike western restaurants it is not normal to make eye contact and say “excuse me” quietly you have to say it loud. Same in Chinese restaurants as well. If your in Korea or China I’m not sure about Japan but if you say it quietly you will get ignored
