I am a 43 year old black female who just had a full rectal biopsy on 4/17/24 to diagnose or rule out Hirschsprung Disease. All my life I have SUFFERED with “chronic constipation” (or so they say/thought). I am awaiting the results (expected this week). If the results confirm HD, I will then move on to having surgery to repair. 🤞🏽

Wishing you the return of your health. I'm 62 with it. I thought this was supposed to be found when you're an infant... argh. Anyway, sending positive energy.

@@sandragifford304 Hi there! The more I studied and educated myself about the disease, I learned you can have it as an adult as it’s also passed off as constipation as a child. Would love to hear more about your health story! Also, it was determined I don’t have Hirschsprung after all. After the biopsy, I did the Sitzmark test where you swallow the capsule then 5 days later, I had an xray of my abdomen to see where the rings that were on the inside of the capsule are. There were 24 rings total and at the end of 5 days, I still had 19 🤦🏽♀️. A long story even short, I am scheduled for a colectomy to remove the redundant colon on July 10, 24. I cannot express how ready I am to have all this be done and over with! I want to know what it’s like to live normal…again.

Can I please request to elaborate more about the part of nurse in such a patient in any disease. I mean other things are already told by many others.

Hi nurse cathy, I was wondering if you knew what book I can learn this from? I have olds maternal newborn nursing 11th ed to reinforce my knowledge on maternal and child but it doesn't contain majority of the ones you listed such as, esophageal atresia, GERD, hirschsprung disease, etc. Thank you so much again for making learning easy!!

I forgot to add, im in a nursing program but my professor only provided modules with summarized diseases and thats why I am confused on what book I can learn this from. Your help would be much appreciated!!
@LevelUpRN7 ай бұрын
Hi there! The disorders you mentioned can be found in most pediatric nursing textbooks. Maternal newborn textbooks only cover a small smount of disorders... those found in newborns only.

Hi 👋 what is the difference between hirschsprung disease vs cystic fibrosis? Thanks in advance if i receive a response 😊
@nftalemtekie8 ай бұрын
Hirchsprung disease is missing nerve cells that initiate motility and peristalsis in the colon. Cystic fibrosis is built up mucus secretions in the lungs.

Can Hirschsprung's disease be cured without surgery?
@LevelUpRN4 ай бұрын
No, surgery is required to remove the non-functioning part of the intestine.

@@LevelUpRNIsn’t this disease hereditary? If so, then why do we not see this disease in some of the parents or grandparents of the baby? Couldn’t one of the parents or grandparents or great grand parents have it but not have known that they had it? And managed some how??? Just curious since you said surgery must be done.
