I found an old British made double rifle recently, external hammers, underlever and damascus barrels. No caliber stamps what so ever, so I've gone through several experts to help me find out. We are still at a loss. Probably an old configuration of the .500 Express caliber, just with a shorter casing, so it's obsolete these days. The only caliber I've been able to locate that matches the measurements of the chamber mold is the .50-110WCF. And while it's doubtful (but not impossible) that it was originally designated in this caliber, the .50-110 brass fits in the chamber like hand in a glove. Kinda nice because it means I can actually get brass for it without having to modify it. Anyway, old double rifles are so elegant. Perhaps my favorite weapon configuration ever.

take it to a smith have him do a camber cast and slug the bore . there you have a case and bore size in less than an hour . Never shoot an old double rifle with out a chamber cast and bore slugged .Because the variations are many and huge

hey dude was wondering does you 1886 50-110 say black powder only on the barrel like the new 45-90s? im trying to save up to get a barrel for my saddle ring carbine I just bought

No, it doesn’t because I had the barrel made by Montana rifleman out of chromemoly steel, and the second barrel for the other 50-110 I had made by Winchesterbarrels out of Florida, and they use high-quality modern cartridge barrel steel, the only reason to 4590 says that on the barrel is because there’s no standard spec on pressures, light to 4570 has pressure level for the trap door for the lever action and for the Ruger number one, so far nobody set any pressure level for it so it is required by import duty to say black powder only

You know you might be able to see have your bullets farther out of a case to give more powder capacity depending on rate of twist which would allow you to experiment with boats up to 900 g r a i n possibility
