I'm not Oromo, I'm Fualni. I find it interesting that as an African, I know almost nothing at all about my continent. And that's most likely the case for most of us, even more so for those who live outside Africa. This channel teaches me new things about Africa every now and then, which I'm thankful about. Also, damn. Their chicks are indeed beautiful.

I'm in contact with one Ethiopian and according to her, she's Amhara. I wanted learn more about Ethiopia and then I stumbled upon this video. I also checked the one about Amhara and realized that there are some conflicts between the Oromo and Amhara lol. I'm Muslim and I'm still learning about our cultures. Oromo are the best nation, they are an Ethiopian nation with a vast untouched culture and attractive facts. Although my mother and father are from the Oromo nation, they have not inherited anything about their nation. Even though I and my sisters and my family belong to the Oromo nation, we were born and raised outside the Oromia region. We do not speak the language and do not know the culture. @@ThePanEthiopian Ancient Kemet was not homogeneous. They had more than 40 ethnic groups. Each group had its own administrative state or province. The Ashanti say they came from a distant land in the East. The Gala of Nigeria claims the same as well. The Dogon of Mali . All the way to the Kikuyu of Kenya and the Zulu of KZN. These groups all have cultural remnants of the Kemetu. The mystery is European s claim that Ancient Kemet was not black, however they fail to tell us who the ancient Kemetu were.

the assimilation part plus the slave trade part is absolutely a lie created by habesha elites to undermine oromo. The Oromo were strongest in east Africa how come one enslaved them? this thing is literally debunked long ago. There were never pure Oromo who got enslaved by others. most slaves in Abyssinia were not pure Oromo but other minority ethnicities who were sold as named 'galla' except a few Oromo children who got enslaved due to war. they all got Fred immediately upon arriving in Europe. secondly, there were barentu oromos in central Ethiopia before Boranas conquest of Abyssinia. the rest are all well-presented. something I recommend you for the next video is that AFAN OROMO is the language that most Egyptologists and anthropologists used to identify hyroghliphics and cuniform of ancient Mesopotamian language. thanks

You made some great points here bro. First of all, amharas have spent much time teaching and broadcasting distorted history with the help of semiticist historians while holding a monopoly over primary sources other vital institutions. This paper does a good job at briefly describing this: "A history of modern Ethiopia: Review - Gebeyehu Temesgen Duressa & Gemechu Kenea Geleta" You're also right about the other points you made. I also want to mention that it wasn't just Barentu who were there but also Borana. For example, there are 13th centuries references taking about the Gaalaan and Yaayyaa gosa who are Borana. Oromo medieval history is still heavily understudied it's changing rapidly now. Though we did have our own highly sophisticated state and form of governance.

@NoRockinMansLand
@NoRockinMansLand 7 ай бұрын
Through Safuu (the Oromo moral value system) Oromos did assimilate other ethnic groups peacefully through naturalization and adoption practises like Moggaasaa and Guddifachaa. However, it has to be understood that this is greatly exaggerated for 2 reasons. First, the pastoral Oromo population, though smaller than Abyssinia, was not a small population. Second, most regions of Oromia (prior to the pastoral Oromo migration) were already inhabited by earlier Oromo sedentary/agro-pastoralist populations. Assimilation of ethnic groups was not exclusive to Oromos either. Somalis assimilated with pre-Islamic inhabitants of modern day Somaliland, Amharas assimilated Agaw/Tigray/Oromo/Omotic populations through expansion and assimilation into Abyssinia. Heck, even the Sabaeans assimilated with the native Agaw populations to create the habesha identity.
@THESURAFELB
@THESURAFELB 4 ай бұрын
They increased their numbers by forced assimilations by wiping out the male figures of other tribes and taking wives and children as war booties as they expanded and occupied most lands of current day Ethiopia. Prior to their expansion, the medieval period Ethiopia was weakened as a result of the conflicts between the Muslim Sultanates and Christian Kings. Thus, a primitive group of nomads from Northern Kenya found the opportunity to easily penetrate that nation and in the process incorporated the culture and lifestyles as is of every groups they assimilated. Therefore, none of them actually have anything in common today except language. Yes the original nomads from Kenya have intermingled with the indigenous tribes they swallowed but not extensively since the distinct features of their ancestries is still apparent.🔔
@THESURAFELB

@@NoRockinMansLandCorrection : Amharas never assimilated Oromos. It is Oromos that assimilated Amharas for that matter.🔔and Agews also assimilated Amharas and Tigrayans when Yodit Gudit was waging wars against the Christians. But later on they themselves were incorporated not wholly but to a degree into both Amgaras and Tigrayans.Get your damn facts straight. Oromos are the most notorious in the history of Ethiopia to forcefully assimilate others and nkt just then, even today they have that crazy dream of expanding and assimilating more. That is like Number 1 out of the entire horn with this habit of wanting something that you don't own.🔔The pastoral lands of Oromos existed in Kenya to begin with not Ethiopia..Ethiopia was already a well civilized nation before the Oromo migration with literally no pastoralist culture except the Afaris and even them had a Sultanate. Yhere was no Gadda no Waqeffena in Ethiopia to begin with before Oromo migration.🔔

I don’t believe that assimilation into Oromo culture is exaggerated; it’s a reality. Many oromized tribes, including some Somali tribes, are aware of their origins. Additionally, there is significant variation in the features and genetic makeup of Oromos, more so than among Somalis and Habesha. To me, being Oromo appears to be more about language and culture than race.

Oromo was much powerful it impossible to be slaved. The other ethnicities in Ethiopia was also referred as gala in south. And Oromo didn’t assimilate. Oromo guddifacha is practiced with Oromo people not from other ethnicities. Oromo got assimilated into Tigray and Amhara in the north. Like north Shawa, Walloo and Raya are Oromo people today they are identified as Amhara or Tigray.

It is unfortunate that we are singing the same colonial song that has separated our people for the last three centuries, remember divide and rule. If you think we are independent and deciding for ourselves, then you're in for a shocker. They are still colonizing us. One of the best tool of colonization today is to shape the narrative. They control everything from Media to written books. That's why we are discussing this topic of who the Oromo people are on this platform which happens to be theirs. If you happen not to know who certain people are, we would normally discourse under a tree. Don't tell me that's not been modern because it is. To cut the long story short if you believe Oromo and Somali to be cousins as the white man told you, sorry to say but you are lost and I should tell you they are indivisible brothers by blood. That's the truth no matter how much you deny and that is why I a somali who has never been where the Oromo language is spoken do still understand the meaning of this words you mentioned " Afaan Oromo" because it's also my language only difference of dialect. So come back and unite the people because that is the only way for us to reach prosperity which the white man hates to see.

The presenter is definitely brainwashed by some Oromo activists who distort the real narrative of this group of people and that of Ethiopia in general. The Oromo language had never been banned from use under Emperor Haile Selassie (there were radio programmes as well as TV; the language was widely used in the capital and in other parts of the country, etc), Mengistu (who, to his credit, had done a great deal in empowering minority ethnic groups, including the Oromos (being the largest group), to elevate their participation in the social and political life) or under the apartheid regime of the TPLF, in which the Oromo Liberation Front had a major role to play in forming an ethnically based federal system until it was ousted from the coalition it created with the former. Currently, Oromo politicians and activists are attempting to impose their version of an apartheid system called Oromuma. This has the purpose of putting the Oromos at the centre of governance, leaving the rest to play the role of subservient. Of course, this could only happen in their minds, as the Ethiopian masses have no appetite nor the tolerance of shouldering another ethnocentric leadership in the country. So don't be fooled by the naivety of the presenter in considering the Oromos as people marginalised by the state, as they always formed and had significant power in all previous governments in Ethiopia. Emperor Haile Selassie was partly Oromo. So were/are Mengistu and the current head of state PM Abiy. Many government ministers during the respective regimes' tenure were from the Oromo ethnic group. Therefore, it is a myth and a distortion of facts to say this group of people was marginalized from the country's social and political life.

FACT: Most Oromo speakers are not genetically Oromos but assimilated tribes from other non-Oromo people incorporated through Gadaa system by Mogasa practice. Notably Amharas in the Shewa and West Wolega, Gurages in West Shewa, Bezamos in East Wolega, Hadiyas in Arsi and Bale, Argobas in West Harar, Somalis in East Harer, Afaris in Karayu zones, Sidamos in West Borana, Somalis in East Borana, Kaffas in Jimma so on and on. This explains the diverse nature of their phenotypes and anthropologies in the pseudo regional structure of today's Ethiopia.🔔

Amharas assimilated Agew, Qimant, Argobba, Dobba, Damot, Gafat, Falasha(Bete Israel), Oromo(in Gojjam and Wello), Weyto, Beja, etc. Then why you try to present the Oromo case as uniquely assimilating others forcefully? Oromo way of assimilation is better than the Amhara who make shocking remarks: Eg. Gondares undermine Gojjames and Shewan Amharas because they are more heterogeneous in origin!

We Somalis have nothing to do with Oromos, please stop lying to your followers, the Habesha of Ethiopia and the Oromo have been intermarrying and sharing linguistic influences with each other for thousands of years since the Oromos were part of the Abyssinian kingdom. Oromos were never part of ancient Somali lands, cultures, or territories. The Garre clan is an outlier who shares a border with the Borana Oromos in Kenya and the majority of Somalis view ourselves as distinct from Oromos who are primarily an Ethiopian/Kenyan population, the only ones who are similar to us are the Hararghe Oromos (some of them are actually assimilated Somalis) living in eastern Ethiopia. Somalis have influenced some of the Oromo cultural clothing, because they have adopted the Somali Guntiino, Sadex Qayd, Dirac all of these cultural clothing are Somali in origin. This is because of the Ogaden border with the Oromos in Ethiopia. Oromos drink bun, eat injera, and write in Ethiopian script. They are more similar to the Gurage, Sidama, Amhara, Tigray, and Omotic tribes of Ethiopia than the Somalis. Oromo language radio was allowed in Mogadishu because Siad Barre, ruler of Somalia at the time, empathized with the Oromo struggle against the Habesha so he allowed them to flee and stay in Somalia. Siad Barre contributed a lot to the African continent, the freedom movements in Rhodesia, apartheid South Africa, and Eritrea to name a few, and today there are monuments named after him in several African countries such as Mozambique and Uganda. Even today many Oromos enter Somalia by foot and stay there in the hundreds of thousands fleeing ethnic violence, famine, and instability in Ethiopia.
