The Oromo were strongest in east Africa how come one enslaved them? this thing is literally debunked long ago. You made some great points here bro. First of all, amharas have spent much time teaching and broadcasting distorted history with the help of semiticist historians while holding a monopoly over primary sources other vital institutions. This paper does a good job at briefly describing this: "A history of modern Ethiopia: Review - Gebeyehu Temesgen Duressa & Gemechu Kenea Geleta" You're also right about the other points you made. I also want to mention that it wasn't just Barentu who were there but also Borana. For example, there are 13th centuries references taking about the Gaalaan and Yaayyaa gosa who are Borana. Oromo medieval history is still heavily understudied it's changing rapidly now. Though we did have our own highly sophisticated state and form of governance.

Through Safuu (the Oromo moral value system) Oromos did assimilate other ethnic groups peacefully through naturalization and adoption practises like Moggaasaa and Guddifachaa. However, it has to be understood that this is greatly exaggerated for 2 reasons. First, the pastoral Oromo population, though smaller than Abyssinia, was not a small population. Second, most regions of Oromia (prior to the pastoral Oromo migration) were already inhabited by earlier Oromo sedentary/agro-pastoralist populations. Assimilation of ethnic groups was not exclusive to Oromos either. Somalis assimilated with pre-Islamic inhabitants of modern day Somaliland, Amharas assimilated Agaw/Tigray/Oromo/Omotic populations through expansion and assimilation into Abyssinia. Heck, even the Sabaeans assimilated with the native Agaw populations to create the habesha identity.

They increased their numbers by forced assimilations by wiping out the male figures of other tribes and taking wives and children as war booties as they expanded and occupied most lands of current day Ethiopia. Thus, a primitive group of nomads from Northern Kenya found the opportunity to easily penetrate that nation and in the process incorporated the culture and lifestyles as is of every groups they assimilated. The Oromo language had never been banned from use under Emperor Haile Selassie (there were radio programmes as well as TV; the language was widely used in the capital and in other parts of the country, etc), Mengistu (who, to his credit, had done a great deal in empowering minority ethnic groups, including the Oromos (being the largest group), to elevate their participation in the social and political life) or under the apartheid regime of the TPLF, in which the Oromo Liberation Front had a major role to play in forming an ethnically based federal system until it was ousted from the coalition it created with the former. Currently, Oromo politicians and activists are attempting to impose their version of an apartheid system called Oromuma. This has the purpose of putting the Oromos at the centre of governance, leaving the rest to play the role of subservient. Of course, this could only happen in their minds, as the Ethiopian masses have no appetite nor the tolerance of shouldering another ethnocentric leadership in the country. So don't be fooled by the naivety of the presenter in considering the Oromos as people marginalised by the state, as they always formed and had significant power in all previous governments in Ethiopia. Emperor Haile Selassie was partly Oromo. So were/are Mengistu and the current head of state PM Abiy. Many government ministers during the respective regimes' tenure were from the Oromo ethnic group. Therefore, it is a myth and a distortion of facts to say this group of people was marginalized from the country's social and political life.

FACT: Most Oromo speakers are not genetically Oromos but assimilated tribes from other non-Oromo people incorporated through Gadaa system by Mogasa practice. Notably Amharas in the Shewa and West Wolega, Gurages in West Shewa, Bezamos in East Wolega, Hadiyas in Arsi and Bale, Argobas in West Harar, Somalis in East Harer, Afaris in Karayu zones, Sidamos in West Borana, Somalis in East Borana, Kaffas in Jimma so on and on. The Wolloos , wether they speak currently or now Amharic, Tigree and/or Oromoo, they are genetically Oromoos. TPLF has made language as a creation of Regional States in 1991 to favor Tigria Region. We Somalis have nothing to do with Oromos, please stop lying to your followers, the Habesha of Ethiopia and the Oromo have been intermarrying and sharing linguistic influences with each other for thousands of years since the Oromos were part of the Abyssinian kingdom. Oromos were never part of ancient Somali lands, cultures, or territories. The Garre clan is an outlier who shares a border with the Borana Oromos in Kenya and the majority of Somalis view ourselves as distinct from Oromos who are primarily an Ethiopian/Kenyan population, the only ones who are similar to us are the Hararghe Oromos (some of them are actually assimilated Somalis) living in eastern Ethiopia. Somalis have influenced some of the Oromo cultural clothing, because they have adopted the Somali Guntiino, Sadex Qayd, Dirac all of these cultural clothing are Somali in origin. This is because of the Ogaden border with the Oromos in Ethiopia. Oromos drink bun, eat injera, and write in Ethiopian script. They are more similar to the Gurage, Sidama, Amhara, Tigray, and Omotic tribes of Ethiopia than the Somalis. Oromo language radio was allowed in Mogadishu because Siad Barre, ruler of Somalia at the time, empathized with the Oromo struggle against the Habesha so he allowed them to flee and stay in Somalia. Siad Barre contributed a lot to the African continent, the freedom movements in Rhodesia, apartheid South Africa, and Eritrea to name a few, and today there are monuments named after him in several African countries such as Mozambique and Uganda. Even today many Oromos enter Somalia by foot and stay there in the hundreds of thousands fleeing ethnic violence, famine, and instability in Ethiopia.
