A total celebration at the Ryman Auditorium. The night was full of love for LEVON HELM and singers like John Hiatt sang on The Weight sang with so much soul and you can see LEVON smiling from ear to ear. If this was the first time LEVON performed at The Ryman then it was a thrill LEVON, his daughter, the musicians on stage and the audience because LEVON will always be an American treasure. I've shed many tears of joy watching this live performance. God Bless LEVON and his family.

For me, Levon Helm is one of the all-time great musicians. Besides his phenomenal drum skills combined with his Southern voice, he brought music that touched the heart directly. So pure, enlightening, fragile and powerful at the same time. Levon Helm brought real life to the stage with his music in a humble way and full of gentleness. The joy for the music and letting the other band members excel. All that was Levon at his very best. Thank you Levon of what you gave me and the world. You are a jewel that I will cherish forever.

There was once a time when there were people that were called songwriter, musicians, and singers who created and performed something that was called music. Ray Charles replied when asked about early rap as a music genre..."Son! That ain't music!"
@hendude1273 жыл бұрын
Rap is as much of a music genre as any other genre is. In fact, the songwriting side of rap is objectively harder, and much much deeper than most (not all, like Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell, great songwriters) rock. Take Kendrick Lamar for example. Dude won a Pulitzer Prize in literature as a black rapper. And I love rock too. So you can look at rap as a mainstream shit genre like most other old heads do, or you can just go in with an open mind and try to appreciate rap. But hey, I can’t make these decisions for you, I’m just tryna tell you that calling a genre with possibly the most gifted songwriters of all time as “not music” is definitely ignorant and you’re close minded as fuck if you think that.

Yes and he certainly suffered from not having a good voice, when the songs are yours but the spotlight is on the singer (Helm) it may be fine in the beginning but in the long run it wears out. Money and fame this is the reason for the breakup. Let's remember that all the members of the band contributed to the success and Danko, Hudson and Manuel should also be remembered.

If Robertson had integrity he would have divied up his earnings equally to all other band members. The band as a whole were unselfish in their contributions to a song. So one black mass energy of selfishness from Robertson aint right. It was a group effort. Rick Danko had to tour with a weak heart. Helm had to perform til he died to pay his bills. Robertson partied with Scorcese set for life.
@laughlight13 жыл бұрын
Just letting you know that Ronnie Hawkins said Helm did the arrangin', and that was a different thing than doing the writing...which was done by Robertson. Helm had a net worth of $12M at the time of his death v Robertson's $40M 2021. I got no dog in this fight, just the facts. I hope there was peace in his phenomenal soul when he left.
@messi89213 жыл бұрын
Maybe Lennon/McCartney should have given Ringo more songwriting credits! 😂 It’s easy to judge looking from the outside looking in but RR was the creative driving force of the Band. If Helm was such a talented arranger then how come he didn’t have any success after RR left? RR had a very good solo career without the other Band members. So that kinda tells you everything you need to know.

Robbie wrote songs which fit the voices and styles of Helm, Manual and Danko. If he didn’t write these songs and manage the groups affairs, nobody would have ever heard of the band, except as Dylan’s back up band. Which wouldn’t have lasted forever. Why the other members were partying, Robbie was down to business. Robbie knew it was over in 1976 and knew it was time to move on. The Band after his departure became a second rate band by the 1980’s without him.

"Alvin Tostig is the father of Levon, who has a son named Jesus. There is a lot of speculation that the name Levon came from Levon Helm, the drummer for The Band, but Elton John's lyricist Bernie Taupin says that he simply made the name up because he likes it, and the song has nothing to do with Helm." ... still, what a great song: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gZLTmJuwlrOkq8k

Imagine creating something and then having uninvolved people saying you should share credit with the people around you who didn’t have anything to do with creating it. Writing the lyrics and initial music of a song is not the same as arranging. Arrangements change all the time.
