The difference in understanding between Levy and Hikaru is astronomical. Levy said the game 6 endgame was a draw, Hikaru understands it is not. The mental game aside, the skill gap is exponential.
@elendarulianreo11 күн бұрын
@@xbjwiehehkqisiu Not quite accurate. Hikaru agrees that the endgame is probably a draw, but Levy should nonetheless play on because he can never lose from that position.

@xbjwiehehkqisiu, you forget Hikaru is a SuperGM, and levy would likely retire after making it into GM😅 one consistently has world championship aspirations and the other is just trying to make it into the club. What's interesting is whether low level GMs see the game closer to Levy or Hikaru🤔

I think the main thing I'm learning from these games, is if you give your opponent only one clear move to make, they fill find it, and inevitably your plans will begin to crumble. It's probably even psychological --- if they found it what else will they find, right? Give them a few options, not hundreds, but a few, and they will could be indecisive and waste time, or they could pick the wrong one. Levy in some of his other games had wasted time making such decisions.

One thing I understand you should give opponent more than one optionn so he can make mistakes. Levy plays like he doesn't believe he can win. Not sure his tactic
@DarkHarlequin11 күн бұрын
There is a wisdom from other strategy games (maybe this also exists in chess): "You have to give your opponent the opportunity to make a mistake!" Meaning you should always keep playing and try things as your opponent can only slip up if you ask him questions. Levy feels like paradoxically his giant YT-chess success is crippling him here and after analyzing so many of the best in the field he assumes his opponents will always play the endgames perfectly and see everything. So he despairs way too soon and wants to flee into a draw (cause in his head every opponent is Magnus and will not slip up). But like Levy himself the IMs and FMs he`s playing are really good at chess but nowhere near perfect so you just have to push them to make a mistake. Like this in the end Levy makes his mistakes under pressure and then seems to often bow out before he can return the favour. In the card game I played back in the day we called that "playing not to lose" instead of "playing to win" 🤔
@dixondeuxyeux11 күн бұрын
With so many followers and subscribers, a new book released for beginners, and commenting on FIDE tournaments, the pressure is on Levy to show and prove that he just doesn't talk about chess improvement but can also win. These losses and draws against lower rated players are likely eating at his confidence and making some of his followers wonder if they are backing the wrong horse. To be an influencer also means leading by example. Chess is hard, his rating has taken a slide and the gaining the GM title is an enormous feat. And most likely he makes much more money from his brand than tournaments. Trying to balance a KZbin channel while playing competitively is a huge commitment. Maybe he should take a hint from Hamilton - talk less, smile more. Will people keep following him as he loses more and more games? Probably, because he is human and likable. But a time may soon come when he will have to choose between playing competitive chess or commenting on others playing competitive chess.

@hmartinlb11 күн бұрын
@2:37 this not true. I am 1800 and I understand this idea very well because it's incredibly similar to an idea in the Korchnoi variation of the Caro Kann. Once you get rid of white's dark square bishop the pawn structure you see on the black kingside at 2:37 is very strong for black, because the dark squares can no longer be exploited and the pawns dominate the light squares on the kingside, so the opponent's light square bishop is useless in any attack. Easy draw, maybe hard to win for black. Trading your own dark square bishop for weaknesses is well worth it then. It doesn't need to cover the dark squares anymore anyhow.
