I'm pleased to know that C.S. Lewis, as one of my literary influences, was also bad at algebraic math like me.

I'm loving this series of lectures. I have read all of Tolkien's works and CS Lewis. Lots of things I didn't know in here. Interesting insights. I also like your history of the church series.

I am rereading Chesterton's Orthodoxy, he did seem to say that post modernism would be the result of modernism

The ring is wanting the need to have everything, a good life, even if it crushes someone else's life, continuess contentment even though it is an illusion, the need to dominate our own future to have security in material and even spiritual being, people nowadays do not want God leading them but would rather write their own story, take their own path, without a deity that makes them feel like they are weak and submissive, when they are lead to believe they are strong and domineering with need of nothing, all the while not knowing that the power at the expense of others they are reaching for is the illusion.

Romanticism, modernism, existentialism, and post-modernism are all reactions to rationalism. Modernism signifies a break from tradition, rationalism, and the enlightenment. Modernists believed that, epistemologically, the only way to approximate and convey truth or knowledge is through the metaphors or symbols.
