The traditional joke is that he signed it that way, "so King George can read it without his glasses" It bears saying, it took some chutzpah to sign your name so legibly on a declaration of rebellion that you intend to send straight to the King.

I’ve always heard a Bronx Cheer as being a sarcastic round of applause, especially at a sporting event. Like a player makes a couple mistakes in a row and then completes a simple play and the crowd cheers as if he did something spectacular
