@Samuel Reid new regulations regarding mainly the floor of the bolides. There were tyre failures in the last year, pirelli got whet feets and said that corner speeds are too crazy and the tyres can not stand the effects. So they made the cars slower this year by decreasing the downforce level.

@Samuel Reid yeah remember 2017-2020 Merc ran a high downforce setup for the whole season compared to other teams because they had the horse power to composite for that so they can take a lot more corners a lot faster. But now with the floor and barge board changes a lot of downforce has been taken away. Remember in pre season testing Merc was sliding all over the place trying to find grip around the corners due to that. Happy they made up for it now. Can’t wait for the 2022 cars to hit the track.

I think this track demonstrates the best how much downforce the cars have lost this year. If you watch at 0:41 you can hear a slight lift whereas in 2020 there was no lift at all
