Lewis & Poirier On "Herb Dean Fault"

During a 2021 UFC Fight Night main event Derrick Lewis created a knockout against Curtis Blaydes that would go viral due to the perfect timing of his uppercut and the memorable line, "That's Herb Dean fault" after Blaydes' corner was upset with the additional punches after the knockdown. Lewis would say that he only continued punching due to Dean not being close to stop the fight. Two years later at UFC 291 Dustin Poirier would have a similar experience with Dean after losing by head kick to Justin Gaethje. But Lewis and Poirier joked about Dean protecting fighters in those two instances. #dustinpoirier #derricklewis #shorts #ufc

I didn't exactly see this either when they replay it but also I'm not looking that hard for it but maybe another angle would be better. Dustin did just literally get knocked out and maybe it "feels" like Herb hit him because he saw him diving at him so it's like the sharp pain of anticipating he was going to get hit. Herb could've grazed him with the tip of his elbow to the collar bone area but maybe I recall Dustin in this saying he got hit in the head by Herb?? Yeah I feel that's whiplash of everything that just happened in 7 secs for him lol

@Bradleyey 4 ай бұрын
There are the fighters who stop when they know their opponent is out cold and the ones who don’t stop. Everyone knows immediately by the way, it’s not a “heat of the moment” thing. It’s a lot to be a fighter but this is the most telling sign and the difference between guys who are mentally healthy and guys who have mental issues. You keep punching a limp, passed-out person, you have problems outside the ring.

Bro this is fight sport most of the guys have some sort of issues that's not really a determining factor 😂some people are taught to fight til the bell or ref and some people don't got that kill or be killed factor, cuz if the roles was reversed it me getting knocked tf out infront of my loved ones so im inflicting as much damage as posssible
@Bradleyey
@Bradleyey 4 ай бұрын
@@gottigotit4x359 I disagree that most fighters have issues. Look at Stephen 'Wonderboy' Thompson as one example. Dude is as classy as it gets, and in his prime he was knocking people out regularly. There are plenty of other examples. I agree that a lot of fighters are trained to keep punching until the fight is stopped, but if you watch a lot of these guys they are actually fighting PAST the ref stoppage, they aren't even concerned with that part and just want to punch a ko'd dude because they can. It's like the guys who will hold a submission for way too long after someone taps. Some fighters do that, and some don't. The mentally screwy ones are the ones to watch out for.
@gottigotit4x359
@gottigotit4x359 4 ай бұрын
@@Bradleyey yea Wonderboy is a stand up guy thru n thru I agree. And In most of those occurrences the fighter goes into the red and can't click back into reality (or doesn't care to),or just enjoys deploying the worst punishment possible for their opponent basically saying, you were dumb enough to fight me and looked how that turned out for you. But I definitely agree with you , those guys need special attention to ensure they don't give someone permanent damage or prevent them from going back to their loved one
@Bradleyey

He is just an animal if he doesn’t know the difference. He could’ve literally killed him, because he didn’t take verbal direction. He said the ref has to pull him off the other guy.
