That's why there is an attack on them. That's why there have been attacks on many areas of freedom of expression. insight has delivered some absolutely terrific content over the years. usually starts with an interesting topic/question, raises (or echoes) some intriguing opinions/angles of thought and provides an open forum to talk about them. i remember a really good one back when voluntary assisted dying was being introduced in australia and hearing doctors of various opinions discuss the ethics of it with each other

It's pretty rare as Australian news/shows usually lean hard on one view and won't let the "evil enemy" share their thoughts. They'll mock them or shout over them. But variety is the spice of life and you never change perspective if you don't sit down and listen to different views. Even if you H A T E someone else's views if you allow them to speak and listen you can maybe challenge it if you treat them with respect.

As someone who is what some would call a "libtard" I'm non-binary, asexual, and on the Autism spectrum, I am also someone who doesn't find crude or edgy humour funny while also finding Lewis's comedy absolutely hilarious despite this. I hate it when people are just generally horrible people, but free speech allows us to expose horrible people and creates discussions. A society in which objectively terrible people are allowed to express their views is a society in which we can put those views under the microscope, analyse them, and realise that they are in fact wrong. Freedom of speech allows racists to be racist. But it also allows their victims to speak out against them, and allows us as a society to realise that racism is inherently wrong. Comedy is the catalyst for this change, because it allows all of these subjects to be brought to light in a manner that brings joy and laughter, letting the concepts be discussed in finer depth without becoming too much to bear. Comedians don't make light of issues. They create the illusion that the water is shallower then it really is, forcing us to swim all the way to the bottom.

But he's thinking that he's rude if he doesn't look back, slipping dark jokes in without targeting any demographic and instead focusing on individuals that wouldn't care or deserve the treatment. Despite what he says, I think he's what all comedians should strive for. I was actually in quite the pit of thinking, falling down roads like genuinely thinking steven crowder was funny before friendlyjordies and lewis. I went to a professional skateboarding contest in Tampa in November, and for my skateboarding-troll youtube channel, ThrashTalking, I held up a poster of one of the pro skaters skating in the contest, Jagger Eaton. He is an olympic athlete, one of the most successful skateboarders of all time, and he is only 20. During one of his runs, I held up a poster about 20 ft from where he and his team was sitting which was a photoshopped image of that kid pinching his own nipples. I was pretty certain that it was only going to be a little funny and everyone would forget in 10 seconds, but as I walked away, here comes his entire team charging at me like they are going to attack, and they are mad as shit. The team manager insisted how I was a terrible person for trying to embarrass this kid and humiliate him, when that was not my intention at all. But I can definitely see how he saw it that way. Since that incident, I have thought a lot about how I need to be more aware of the numerous perspectives from any "joke" that I tell/pull. It was a dicey situation... very subjective. I'm still not exactly sure how I should feel about it all.

It is extremely important to have a sense of humor, "sense" being to be able to recognise when someone is being genuine with their jokes which are light hearted and meant to lighten the mood. There are people out there who don't have this sense and take it as an insult, and when these people wanna make a joke back, they make it an insult which is not meant to be funny just plan insulting, which shows that they miss the point of the joke. Good on you, Lewis! One minor correction (also just taking the opportunity to plug a great film): We are not the only species that can laugh, which I think shows laughter to be even MORE important, because it's actually rooted in our biology (and the biology of many other species). There's a great documentary on laughter called "Jimmy Carr and the Science of Laughter", if you're interested in the topic (or if you just like Jimmy Carr).
