High Bridge was originally about 280’ above the water but is now 308’ above summer pool of the Kentucky River.

my dad took us to high bridge in the 60's when i was a teenager. we all found a railroad spike and walked to the center of the bridge and dropped them over the edge. it took a long long time to hit the water, then a long time to hear the splash. we made it back to the land way before we heard a train. it was an experience we talked about for a long time afterward. in the old days, a lot of free stuff was our entertainment, like picking wild blackberries....10 bushels at time...our fingers and faces purple.

the blackberries? my mom would can them and make jam and pies. we were 5 kids growin up.
