I studied MMA for ten years and I've was raised in a bad environment. I saw tons of fights in the streets and in the bars. When it was a one on one fight, BJJ worked flawlessly. The problem was, in the streets people have friends. I saw a BJJ Brown belt get beat up by two nobodies. He was in a busy bar and started to choke an opponent out, easily. He didn't see the guy's friend walk up behind him, because he was busy choking the guy out, and get hit in the head by a cue stick. He got knocked out and then kicked to a pulp. I love BJJ, but it is a weapon of last resorts, in a street fight. Be smart, stay on your feet, and observe your surroundings.

you could always chose to accept the heritage of BJJ and learn the old schools where all the techniques come from, which work in real life, and where you also train to keep your head on a swivel WHILE choking someone out, because you train for bars and battlefields and not for a sports event.. just saying..

Thats why you need to be a complete MMA fighter. No, Jiujitsu obviously wont work against multiple opponents...Solution: Take up Muay Thai or Boxing!
@jadestep96243 жыл бұрын
@@michaelfarar4232 (Warning: Long comment.) MMA has really lost it's meaning over the years. There's a lot of assumption or generalizations based around it. I just keep it simple and tell people I do Kick-Boxing. Some people that don't know martial arts well understand it from a very quick perspective: "Oh, so it's Boxing but with kicks from Karate? Neat." It's best to just explain things in the quickest most simplistic manner possible when dealing with the average person who isn't a fighter themselves. ( just for the sake of getting the point across fast and politely) A lot of people hear the term "MMA" but many don't really seem understand the concept behind it that it's a complex mixture from many different fighting disciplines put together and utilizing what's affected out of those multiple list of self-defense fighting tactics/techniques. While it's good to understand and practice what a person has been taught, it's also a smart idea to develop and evolve from what someone learned later on. After all two people might have trained under the same discipline but utilize the fighting style very differently. One boxer is not going to punch the same way another does or move the same way, one BJJ person won't approach their opponent in the same way as another or use certain counters at different times, Ect. Of course I am not a professional or anything I'm just the average Joe that did a couple of years of training for a few different fighting styles and researched and practiced to find out what works for me. (incase you're curious: Jeet Kune Do, Kick-Boxing, Old-school Boxing, and a little bit of Muay Thai for a short while with a neighbor who was a buddy) Study research practice and find out what works for a person and as long as they're able to protect themselves and the ones they care about. That's what matters.

First of all, real street fights do not last that long. Seconds usually. As a former boxer, the golden rule is that the ground is least place you want to be and it is where most fights end up, either someone gets knocked out or you end up grappling with that person. Ju Jitsu, which I think is a legit fighting style, focuses on the latter. Here's where I think is the problem. In an uncontrolled environment, it puts you in a disadvantage: you could get hurt on the way down (hit your head on a table or curb, for example) and someone else could come by (one of his buddies) and kick you in the head. A heavier and bigger man could also posed problems if he too knows what he's doing. Purposely taking it to the ground would not be my go to move. However, if you do find yourself on the ground, Ju Jitsu would certainly come in handy. I think if you are looking for a style strictly for self-defense, I would choose Muy Thai. And make sure you practice it regularly because your skills decline when you don't and knowing it is not enough.

If you fight a nobody in a night club, a typical Muay thai kick will probably KO them one by one. For a real.strert fight, either Boxing or Muay thai is guaranteed to work. @iROChakri3 жыл бұрын
Does BJJ work in real street fights? A better question to ask is, would you hug someone who has ... a car key to stab your neck? 😆 The best style to use in street fight is probably Boxing and/or Muay thai. Strike at the weak points ie eyes or balls then run away like hell. In fact, if you're fighting a nobody at all, a typical Muay thai kick will already break the dudes leg, giving you a chance to run away. Never ever try to hug a stranger in street fights. Biting is allowed. Headbutt is allowed. Any objects around all allowed. Thus, only striking arts can help you in real street fights and grapping arts only get you killed.

So…. FIRST Jiu Jitsu class I ever went to…. Knee on belly left me with a couple bruised ribs. Painful, and inhibited my training for over a month. Definitely works, but be nice to your training partners….
@orti12833 жыл бұрын
Wait, you mean bruised as in normal bruised? when nothing is broken or cracked, but just some pain and purpleness? Dude if you stopped training for A MONTH over some bruises, you need to keep training and toughen up. Knee on belly is usually used on beginners as a mean of demonstrating that you can do basically nothing with pure strength, cuz most of us try to force our way out when we don't have yet acquired the technique, but I doubt your partner was malicious about it, knee on belly is simply a heavy technique, if you leave too much weight off the knee, it's wrongly executed and anyone will be able to escape it, it's tough at first, but you get used to it and realize that the torso is tougher than we think, just gotta get those core muscles worked up. In any decent school everyone looks after everyone's well being, but sometimes shit happens and we can't stop because of some pain unless it's a real injury. Keep it up man, you can't expect to come out bruiseless from Jiu-Jitsu training
@ThatJamesGuy883 жыл бұрын
@@orti1283 I mean “bruised” as in the soft connective tissues between the ribs were injured, which causes pain and difficulty breathing for an extended period of time until they heal. And no, it did not prevent me from training, just made it painful. I trained anyways. You’re right, he wasn’t malicious. He did outweigh me by a significant margin, and stuff happens. At this point, I’m still training.

3:39 my 2cents... instead of turning your hips in towards the punch, keep your grip on the attackers hand hand turn your hip in towards the attacker. Create tension in the attackers elbow, also with his hips next to you he wont be able to punch, it's less technical. follow through with the turn and drop to your knees. The tension in his elbow will force his face to the ground. If not, you still have a free hand and a leg next to you to perform a sweep. you still don't have to worry about a punching hand. 18:56 in the headlock... you're assuming his going to punch so that you can escape... unless the attacker somehow transitions into a bulldog choke, scoop the leg and slam... maybe the attacker is going to be worried about punching when both his feet are off the ground? Having to narrow down your grips to wrists is too finicky in a "street fight" situation. You need big bold easy techniques that get the job done. Eve the rape choke position from knee on belly... to shrimp will be a natural reaction... these are all good moves, but not refined for the street.

Nowadays is more ground practise but oldschool jiu jitsu masters still teach self-defense here in Brasil. as an example, the headlock one, this counter is good, but the one I learnt was totally different, to resume you would move kind of sideways to grab the legs of the attacker from behind and throwing him on the floor.

Excellent video, you should look at aikido kotegaeshi videos. For a wrist lock takedown once they are down you have wrist elbow control allowing you to turn them over or just dislocate the should if they are resistant, but Honestly it hurts so bad you move wherever it releases the pressure which puts you onto your belly.

aikido gets hate because most practitioners you're average person see dont integrate real time sparring. so its become too formalized. if you have a grappling background you can make many of the principles work. roy dean does some good work with this and martial arts journey is an ex-aikio bloke who modernised and has some good videos on where aikido went wrong.
@mcmc18634 жыл бұрын
@@monkeyishi it can work without grappling background, the ground work is fine, its more confidence, that trust in yourself is what its about, its hard for a lot of people to to go from striking blocking arts to evasive movements, almost boxing footwork without the same guard is how i look at it. Some do put the aikijutsu side into it also, which how i learnt it after along with JKD and jujitsu, the latter through aikijutsu
@monkeyishi4 жыл бұрын
@@mcmc1863 the trust is build up over pressure testing and alot of akido i've seen/been to doesnt have pressure testing in a realistic manner and if they do they get flattened . there are some more modern ones that do and make it work. but they arent as wide spread. do you get the point i'm making as to why people see it as they do? another aspect is as far as i know aikido was designed as a conceptual art that was supposed to be used by people who could already and bring into conscious thought how techniques worked mechanically. but as it got made safer and split off into its own thing it lost that grounding in reality. i'm happy its being re-intergrated though. i think it has its place.
