As I have said, "Sailing" has become something more than we ever dreamed it would. Imagine, The Beatles as your beginning and reason for embarking on a path as a pre teen. You find out years later from an assistant engineer to Lee DiCarlo who engineered "Double Fantasy" that a record you played on, "Sailing," was his favorite record. That information pretty much saved my life one day, when things were falling apart on another record date. To be able to recreate this with The Lexington Lab Band was an otherworldly experience for me. Of course, I never played it live in the studio with all of this instrumentation. We tracked bass, drums, one guitar and piano. We only played it with live strings on a handful of occasions. 45 years have come and gone since a just turned 22 year old kid ventured into Warner Amigo Studios in Burbank with next to no experience to create what would become one of the classic songs of generations. When I think of those days, I see my entire life pass before me...and truly tracking this it was hard to concentrate above the influx of memories. I love this so much! The young string players were incredible! Everyone who worked on this from LLB are just over the top with greatness. I can't thank the group enough for the privilege of contributing to this finery. No one comes close to this....Not even Chris!

@TommyTaylorOfficial3 ай бұрын
@@crickkett7510 Yep he did. He didn’t make the record by himself. He didn’t come up with the parts that everyone played. Sure, you have to have the song first. But who plays what with what intent is also a huge factor in how the song sounds and is remembered. I recorded the original demo that got the record contract AND the original record. No one is taking anything away from the fact that he wrote it. I played the song all over the world with Christopher Cross. I was there for the whole thing. His current performances aren’t this.

So, I'm 64 years old and just had to go wipe my eyes and blow my nose so I could see well enough to type this comment. In my opinion this is, with the possible exception of a Boston tune, your finest rendition of anything you have done over the many years I've been following you all. The kids have got to be over the moon with being invited to this gig...and they all knocked it out of the park! I am constantly amazed at how you always seem to find the correct way to compress your mics, just the right amp sounds, the strings you choose for the right sound...you all just kill me with this skill set! I know that for you all, this is just for fun and self-enjoyment, but I have to say THANK YOU for the talents you share with us all. I live in Appalachia, and right now this is exactly what we need to help calm our nerves and escape even if it's just for a few minutes. Thanks, gang!....and thanks, Tommy!!!

You know, there's something particularly captivating about music played with INTENT. Don't get me wrong, I love emotive improvisation- when a guitarist cuts loose with a solo based on feel, it's an amazing thing - but a performance like this, where everyone is locked in and "understands the assignment" as a tribute to the original, is genuinely special.
