Lex - there's an acronym which I've used for quite a while now when regarding any type of gambling, and it is this: HALT - It stands for hungry, angry, lonely, or tired. I think in general terms, it applies quite nicely here. If you're experiencing any one of these things, then you are probably not in the proper mindset to be playing optimum poker. You could substitute a number of other emotions for any one of these that you have issues with frequently, but of course they might not fit into the acronym.... But you get the point. Anything that could take you off your A game is bad for your game and for you treating it like a business... For someone who doesn't care about their bankroll and just wants to have fun, this might be okay but I know those conditions don't apply to you personally.

Great analysis, great content. Love the graphics such as "Hands we're targeting..." On the KQs hand at 9:00 - That's a pretty sexy cold 4-bet bluff, but at least it takes away some AK, KK, and QQ combos, and you have an easy fold if you get 5-bet. On the river, I 100% go for value, for exactly the reasons you say. If you know this reg, he knows you, and he's not likely to bluff into you. When I'm torn between going for value and trying to induce a bluff, I always err on the side of going for value because people just don't bluff rivers that much - especially bluff-averse pros in 4-bet pots.

I really like your willingness to address a topic at the end of the Vlog such as today’s question of “How Long to Play?” It’s a nice addition that many other vloggers don’t do. There is lots of material (books, blogs) on the actual strategy of poker but harder to find this type of important poker related content. I would be interested in topics such as: 1. Dealing with abusively players at the table 2. Dealing with upswings and downswings 3. How to find best games 4. How do you go about studying away from table. Thanks! 3.

My main problem is I usually get up early in session and don't want to go home because I can't play every day. I mean I have been up $500-1000 within the first hour in a $1/3 game and then lose it all later. It is a HUGE problem with my game now. I need to be able to "lock in" in session profits and hit the road but somehow I stick around and end up losing it all in cooler situations or aggro players.
@kyle7843 жыл бұрын
@@michaelsessions837 Check what the rules are for buying back in with a lower amount. Most places I've been in have a 1-2 hour lockout period(a good time to grab some food/take a nap in the car/whatever). If I'm up 4x or more my buy-in I don't want to potentially lose all of it and have a losing session with the exception of being at a great table with a big stack.

I know the people you are referring to are better than me but I agree with your line. You're line was weird but as an opponent I would've read that as a missed nut flush draw and maybe a low pair to semi bluff (meaning I would've called with a K) . It made sense they way it played out even if you think it was abnormal and 1 rule you should always have ignore comments from people better or worse it's your money and your play style ... if everyone had the same /proper mind set on how to play hands we would all have a break even bankroll and play all hands the same

Subscribed. Enjoy the content. Can't comment too much on the hand where you lead with JJ as it's not a spot I've ever really studied, but I think a lead, x-call, x-raise line may work, rather than leading the river for pot. I'm more interested in the AKdd hand. I agree with your flop check, but then I really dislike the turn 1/3 pot lead. You need to continue with another check here IMO. As you said, the flop connects well with both opponents' ranges, and this turn is another card that interacts really well with those ranges. You check call flop with QQ, KK, AA and those hands are never incentivised to now lead turn when the flush and most obvious two pair combo do come in. I would have really liked to see how the flop bettor reacted to this card had you checked again, and you could then have evaluated whether to x raise turn or continue proceeding as a call, where your range looks capped to overpairs and a competent player may blast off massively on rivers. Anyway, keep it up Lex! Let me know if you're ever in Phoenix, AZ.

JJ Hand at 14 min: Your line looks like Q10. Lead big on the flop, open ended to the nuts, check call brick turn, lead big when you hit the nuts. Calling pre to UTG1 raise from SB, you can have all combos of suited and off suit combos of Q10 in your range. This makes your line very value heavy. I think, if you just check call the flop, your lead on the river is more polarized and villan might find a call more often.

Hey Lex I wonder about the AdKd hand. I think you took the worse line possible xD. Raise on flop seems like best option to me but you end up calling with nut flush draw and 2 overs. Then when you hit on turn you lead. What do you hope getting called from? You could have AA KK QQ or a hand with J in it and a diamond in the hand so getting value from 1 pair hands TX is really hard. I guess if it was a lower diamond we can continue with some 10X but we still have to fold our straight draws given the fact we can't get our value on River and we might be drawing dead. All single diamond hands can continue but guess what there is only Qd in the deck at this point. So if you check call flop I think you should check turn if it goes check check check and River is a brick we can 100% check again if first to act player also checks and let BTN value bet his good 10X combos raise him more then average and put him in awful spot. Or let him just bluff. If someone happens to hit trips/straight or 2 pair on River he we lose good amount of money. Only hand we can really get value from this way is another flush sett or TJ but they will probably bet again on turn or river with this hands anyway. Also you can never call just TX as next player to act because there is 1 more player behind you to act so your top pair on flop suddenly become pure garbage. I think I made my point. Hope someone reads it and comments if he agrees with this thought process. I guess if we lead all our naked AdX KdX on turn for same amount we might be balanced but I doubt you do it.

Ahhhh and every 9 makes a straight on River and we can go for the insane triple check river huge raise play when they bet for value.

JJ hand I would put you on 7hXh you pick up decent showdown value on turn those you want to just check and get to showdown vs AQ type of hands. 9hits your range better so you decide to turn the pair of 7 into bluff since you can't call another bet. Makes perfect sense once all this thought process goes throw my mind I will call with any pair better then 77 no joke.
@charlesfriebis79543 жыл бұрын
For the set of jiggities, I think you took a great line flop and turn. I prefer to lead with sets in big games where people are likely to call flop bets light or even float for the chance to bluff later. A check-raise flop would and then checking on the turn enduces a bluff. The river is where you get a little off. You are betting close to pot, hoping he is bluff catching or exactly has some odd 2 pair and is calling for value. I think a check on the river or a small bet that looks like thin value is better. Check could enduce another barrel a small bet may enduce a bluff raise to get you off a weak K.
@alext38923 жыл бұрын
I like your flop check call with AK of diamonds, not just because it's a flop that's better for villains range but also because we want to strengthen our check call range and include some nut flush draws so we can't just be barreled easy

I would have been pretty small on that river. Getting value from only KJ is pretty thin. And in that case, you might as well bet 750 or so. You might get a crying call from something like A5hh, A7hh, 108, 109, or 78, 88, or 99s if you bet small. And yeah, I think he could have a few combos with a 10 that chck the flop. In a 4-bet pot three ways, he might check flop not wanting to build the pot too much. Not saying that's a wise move for villain to do, but some will do that. I was thinking something more like 250 - 350. Hell, he might even do a hero call with AQ. I've just seen so many players call light when they hit some random pair or have a decent middling pocket pair and they have great pot odds. I've been extracting so much value from these hands.
@DoughnutLord503 жыл бұрын
I like a check raise on the JJ hand. I feel we can get more value putting in more money on the turn. If your opponent has a flush draw or straight draw he's more likely to stick around. King x would most likely stay as well.
@francismorgan093 жыл бұрын
Regarding the KQ spades hand- i usually would check there bcuz the only thing that can call u is a hand that beats you -k10, ak, 1010. So even tho he does not bluff often i think thats the only way you can get more money from him. That being said, the way you played it by betting the river (too big imo) grants you the ability to not show your cards, which can and is an effective motive. Keeps them guessing
