Taking the hybrid with the low profile tires on that road was nuts! 😱😂

@@CoastalGX it was pretty similar, so I knew what to expect. There has been some recent erosion which has made some areas ruddy and difficult for lower clearance vehicles, even south of Ernst Tenaja. I talked with a guy in a Subaru who had to turn around because of it. My GX had no problem!

But he made it nonetheless with the assistance & guidance of those around him and that's what the overland/offroad community is all about. Teamwork. 👍 I'm sure he probably won't try it again in that particular vehicle, but now he can actually say that he did it in an RX and this video is proof of that.

Lolololol I'd be the one in the RX400H, but I wouldn't take my chances on that! HahA! Glad he made it. I have mine in Massachusetts for the snow, but that's about it. The hybrid (at least mine, '07 RX400H) is a couple inches higher off the ground than the regular 2nd Gen. RX350, but that's to keep the hybrid battery from getting soaked. Anyway, I love your videos! So fun! I'm disabled, so there's not a ton of stuff I can do, or afford. Would I love to do this with a GX like yours? Hell, yes! Maybe if I win the lottery some day! Hahaa.

EXT just came back from there and ran Old Ore in a 2016 2500 Mega cab Hemi. An unmodified Power Wagon would cake walk through Old Ore. I am leveled on Bilsteins and running 295/65r20’s (35.1”x11.8) Toyo Open Country AT3’s. Didn’t bother airing down. PW has lockers; mine has limited slip. I doubt you would need to lock anything. Just my $.02.

Depending on the season, old ore road can be worse than black gap. During a rainy day black gap is a mess lol

Man, I agree! I was down there over Thanksgiving and Old Ore wasn't that bad. Maybe the runoff from the late December snow storm had something to do with the road condition? Y'all did an awesome job, Robert. Old Ore is about 3 times the length of Black Gap!

I am heading to Big Bend in mid-August. Do you think a stock diesel Nissan Titan XD would be able to navigate this trail? I go offroading every now and then in Eastern KY, but these are lots of sharp rocks which pose its own set of challenges. I am currently running Falkan Wildpeak's which are great in soft dirt and mud, but I havn't really had any experience with them on lots of loose rocks. The truck is stock. The guy in the hybrid Lexus has balls of steel. Makes me wonder what his wife did to him when he got back home.
@CoastalGX3 жыл бұрын
The trails weren’t too hardcore. I’m sure your truck would do well. If you’re concerned with the sharp rocks, perhaps consider lowering the air pressure. The heat will be strong at that time so make sure your cooling system is working great. Thanks for watching!
@junehhan3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for responding! The heat does worry me, but the Aisin HD transmission and the cooling system are two things Nissan really did right on these diesel XD's. I took it to Death Valley a couple summers ago and even the AC continued to blow ice cold on the 125-129 degree days. I guess I will see once I get there whether I decide to tackle the primitive roads or not. If the temperatures are over 110 degrees, I probably will wuss out as a breakdown in those temps can be fatal. Do you have a satelite phone renter than you recommend?

How was the stock GX 460? We are headed to BBNP in Feb 2024. We will be stock (no lift) with Michelin Defenders. My only concern is clearance and my lack of experience. We will be carrying two kids and my parents who are in their 70-80's so getting stuck would be a serious situation that I want to avoid. So if there's any question, I will just drive part of Old Ore or skip it, but we want to have little bit of fun... : )

Just saw your reply to WBrown999 above... Guess it's a yes but with a check-in with the rangers to confirm conditions are "normal". Will depend on if the parents are feeling up to the adventure...
