Thanks so much for making this video. My alternator was not putting out any voltage, I could smell burnt electronics and it had a howling sound. I was able to change the defective alternator on my 2006 ES330 with confidence. Also thanks for identifying the nut and bolt sizes - it helps to lay out the tools for the job and not clutter up the bench.

If you hear your alt on one of these cars start to make a funny noise, take note... there's about 90% chance the thing failed or is ready to fail. Mine was "groaning" the other night and in an hour and a half of driving later, it died completely. This video is a decent guide on how to do the job. Also a good idea if your alt has gone completely and you end up getting towed, etc... make sure to charge your battery completely before starting the car with the new alt installed. This way the alt doesn't have to beat itself up to charge the dead battery and you don't have to keep the car running for a long time to do so.

I used a mini/micro air ratchet to get that tension bolt out. I got one at harbor freight and ran it from a twin tube compressor that kept running short of air but worked. A normal 1/4 inch ratchet also works. I didn't even use a swivel.

Thanks for the video upload! Doing my dads Lexus tomorrow. Battery light came on dash, seems like the defective alternator did not provide optimal output as the battery did not charge. No dead cells. Off topic: kind of sad that Toyota still did not use auto tensioner drive belts even on this year/model. Corolla sure, but Lexus v6 rocking mechanical tensioner on an 05? Disappointed.

I cannot get the tension loose enough to get the belt on the alternator. Tried left. Alternator rose. Tried right. Bolt seems to loosen, then tighten. It’s driving me nuts. My vehicle is a 2005 RX330.

I change alternator .and batery .but the batery light doesn't go off also it drain my batery againg you say something about not disconnecting the babety ..what could of happen if l didint diisconet the batery ..maybe relay or fuse ..l still have the problem thankyou

The brand new- not rebuilt alternator is burning up. And it got so hot, that it melted the belt. So, i replaced it again. And it's trying to do the same thing. Torrian Frazier you may be able to use a 1/4 in ratchet and 12mm socket. I've never done it that way, but could be possible.

I ended up using a universal joints with hand tools which helps get you a place to swing the ratchet, if only a little.

KEVIN CUELLAR I’m doing mine today as well. I got the Autozone alternator and it just went out. I hate changing the alternator in the ES300. It’s unnecessarily extensive process. I could change the alternator in my truck or corolla in a couple of minutes, but the Lexus takes time
