People remember the LFA for its iconic sound but forget that it was a track BEAST. When it came out, it was the fastest production car EVER on the Nurburgring until the 918 hypercar was released. When they try to, they're one of the best brands for performance, so expect a crazy lap time It's unfortunate that people care so much about brand name. This car will likely considerably outperform more expensive cars while being nicer but more reliable, but people would rather pay double MSRP for a GT3RS or something like that

@@willstw people do realize it they just don’t care. Even for the LC500 every major car media outlet had it as car of the year, even as recent as 2023 but people would still rather pay double for inferior cars 😭

They should integrate a no glasses 3d display for the speedo. Gives the flexibility of a screen while giving the appearance of a physical speedo. It would have to executed well enough where you wouldn’t notice but I think it’s possible today.

I think Lexus could spank the GTD and 911 GT3 in lap times, but it's sure going to lack that legendary sound with a twin-turbo V8 hybrid. I think they have a chance of really knocking it out of the park in sales with the new MR2 if they do it right, one driver-focused, lightweight, RWD, stick, compact engine, low cost, and one performance-focused.

don’t underestimate Lexus/Toyota when it comes to innovation. I’m sure they wouldn’t do it if it didn’t meet their standard. the exhaust I’m sure is gonna sound amazing

@@myqaveli Ya, but I can't think of any other car so renowned for its legendary sound, not even the Ferraris V12s. Hell, I've played back videos of the thing cranked up to the max, it's basically ear prn. @TopGear better get the LFA in the sound tunnel in the future. Let's hope they get Yamaha to tune the sound and maybe lighten that flywheel.

Definitely will have to save some monies for this. Also after all you said about the RCF GT3 it still won the IMSA Championship last year against the more “advanced” cars despite its short comings.

It was $375k and most of its competition was $300k, although not nearly as exclusive or made out of carbon

Yep, I can’t remember the story 100% but the car was released late so by the time it was released some of its tech and stats were already outdated compared to the competitors but that doesn’t mean the price wasn’t always kind of too high.

@T5_T-Rell, the concept was released 5 years before production. And in the meantime, nissan released the r35 gtr, which made the lfa somewhat obsolete

The ones in videos are two different versions. One in tracks with that THICC wing is a FIA GT3 race car. While one with the slim wing testing in roads is the actual road car.

I love the direction Lexus is going. Yes I love V10s and their sound more than v8s but I love how Lexus has been been growing, innovating and essentially “perfecting their version of a V8 just like how BMW is known for inline 6s and Honda for inline 4s. I feel like v8s are starting to represent Lexus and it all started with the legendary 1UZ-FE

It's going to be a GT3 racecar, so the twin-turbo V8 isn't surprising as some form of twin-turbo V8 or V6 seems to be the go to engine layout for GT3 racing.

The more rearward driving position will also make it a lot more exciting to drive because it puts the driver behind the pivot point of the vehicle, so you'll feel more of the G-forces from cornering hard. If you aren't going to make the absolute fastest car out there, then you need to make it stand out in another way. And making it exceedingly fun to drive is always a great place to start.

anybody else see a striking resemblance to the Mercedes AMG GT3? it even sounds similar. this is a really cool development tho, for sure. and based on what you said about their current GT3 car it sounds like it's a very *smart* move for them to develop a new race car. i would assume that along with their efforts in Europe and North America they would also run it in SuperGT (the rough Japanese equivalent to DTM from before they switched to GT3 regulations).

I think this will be a halo car in Lexus lineup just like what LFA were, and it will be limited to a very small number that means it’s still hard to get one EVEN if you have the money…

hopefully Toyota at some point in the not too distant future will have there own version of the LFR if they did it would probably the production version of the GR GT3 concept i think it would make 100% sense to me if that did that and it probably will have a different name since Lexus's version will be called the LFR

If the engine he showed on screen is really whats going in that thing. That's hydrogen powered. A Yamaha Hydrogen powered ICE engine would be fun to see, but I doubt it'd sell anywhere outside of Cali. The engine was commissioned by Toyota as a v8 powered hydrogen engine a couple of years ago. I'm really excited to see what we get.

If they are smart they will use lightweght materials and be able to mass produce the puppies and come in a good 10 to 20% less cost at retail than anything else on the market thats comparable. Then everyone will want one and own one.

things might have changed now that there's something called the LFA. As the world now knows that Lexus is capable of, and the LFA being the unobtainable car that it is, things might swing heavily towards the LFR if they play it right.

And the LFA with only 8 cylinders is a travesty (at least if it isn't a true flat plane with a blended exhaust sorta like a Kline exhaust 458). Drop a Z06 or ZR1 engine (single turbo and equal length, stepped exhaust) in there and I might change my mind. Heavy 20-inch wheels and oversized diameter tires need to piss off, too.
