Dark Yellow (Tan) grease - This is typically a lithium-based or general-purpose grease: This is for the inner CV joint because it experience less severe conditions. Dark Grey (Black) Grease (This is usually a molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) grease): This is for the outer CV joint. It experiences more extreme angles and higher loads, making the MoS2 grease's high-pressure properties suitable. It be summarized by the mnemonic "Thinner is inner," referring to the tan grease being less viscous than the black grease. So, yellow for inner, black for outer.

When I change my oil in my 2020 Toyota Camry , use of a mechanics lift . I spray all the rubber parts liberally with 303 Protectant . To help them resist drying out and cracking , such as these axle boots .

Nice. Never tried that myself makes sense.

Thanks to your video my son and I, we were able to rebuild the passenger side axle on 2013 ES 350 and tomorrow we’re going to do the driver side axle. You saved us a bunch of money 💵 👍🫡

Awesome keep it up! Rebuilding the driver side axle is pretty much the same concept!

Hey, I wanted to ask when removing the cv joint do you think it’s possible to remove it without a vice?
@harborareatech31017 күн бұрын
I'm sure you can but I wouldn't recommend it. Might be too much of a hastle

I have a 2008 lexus gs350 rwd and I was wondering if you could help me find the part number for the left (driver side) rear CV axle boot. A kit with both the inner and outer boots would be much appreciated.
@harborareatech310 Жыл бұрын
Unfortunately there is no kit for the rear axle boots. They must replaced as a unitt

What pliers did you use at the 6:05 Mark in the video? Thanks for the video.
@harborareatech310 Жыл бұрын
They are cv boot clamp pliers. they are the snap-on version, but the Lisle 30800 CV Boot Clamp Pliers are just as good and more economical. Please note, though, that the special clamp tool that is used afterward is REQUIRED for proper tightness

Thanks very much, can you share some info on the band tightening tool?
@harborareatech3102 жыл бұрын
The toyota driveshaft boot clamping tool number is 09521-24010 will be adding the part number for the clamp tool in the description. Thanks for the feedback!
@Christopher-mi6qe2 жыл бұрын
@@harborareatech310 Thanks. That tool is really expensive. If looks like it does the same thing as normal band clamp pliers.
@harborareatech3102 жыл бұрын
@@Christopher-mi6qe other tool manufacturers may have the same tool for cheaper. The thing with this special tool is that it allows that extra tightening force that may be allowable with band tightening pliers.

@7:24 whats the spray that you are using? thanks for the great video!
@harborareatech310 Жыл бұрын
The spray I am using is 3M Silicone Lubricant (dry type) to allow easy installation of the new boots. It will dry afterwards to prevent the boot from slipping out of place. Don't forget to subscribe (if you havent) to see more videos like this. Thanks for watching. 👊

Hi, do you know the part number for a 2013 Lexus gs350 all wheel drive front driver side axel boot? Is the boot for the inner the same as the outer? The small clamp on the inner boot fell off on mine and looking to replace.
@harborareatech310 Жыл бұрын
Hi, your best bet will be to contact your local lexus parts department. They have the information on hand that you are asking for. I know that the awd vehicles' cv boots on the gs may vary from those on a fwd vehicle.

Honestly, it ranges depending on the labor rate from shop to shop. At the dealership, they would charge 2.5 hours.
