Keep your head up Steve and other leafs fans. The leafs right now remind me of the Pens in 08-09. A year after going to the finals they were in shambles and still had a very talented team. The organization wasn’t afraid to fire Michel Therrien. They did wait until February and after a 6-2 loss to the Leafs oddly enough, but it happened. It can still happen for the Leafs. I just hope your management isn’t too belligerent to make the needed moves no matter who they hurt. Don’t waste all of the talent you have Leafs

Hi Steve, I'm a huge Leafs fan living in New York. During my years as a kid living in Toronto I went to Maple Leaf Gardens and watched my heroes Dave Keon and Tim Horton play. Brit Selby was a neighbor in Don Mills. He got me all the Leaf signatures from the 1968 Leafs team which are framed hanging in my music studio. Included are signatures of Doug Gilmour, Wendel Clark, Mats Sundin, and Felix Potvin. I enjoy your game analysis videos and you sometimes ease the pain of a loss with your wonderful sense of humour. But this team is sadly going nowhere. I just hope they can turn it around as the Blues did last season. But with the way this defense plays I don't think they will. Marchand danced in there twice as if he were picking flowers unscathed. Last night's game against the Penguins I DVR'd and fast forwarded after the first goal against and just numbly watch the goals go up to six in the upper left hand corner of my TV screen. Why endure 2.5 hours of frustration when I can boil it down to 10 minutes. I never thought I would do that as a Leafs fan.

As a fan of both teams, both organizations have had to suffer with poor seasons after good/decent runs. The Oilers after going two playoff rounds deep, had trouble (Klefbom/Sekara being injured as major factors, trades another) Now the Leafs making playoffs past three years are duplicating the Oilers of the past by doing it with injuries all over the lineup (Reilly undisclosed yet still playing / their top line being turned into an injury turnstyle) Calgary isn't humming yet either. Oilers 2018-2019 campaign, 22 games in - 10/11/1, 21 points Leafs 2019-2020 campaign, 22 games in - 9/9/4, 22 points Flames 2019-2020 campaign, 22 games in - 10/9/3, 23 points Misery loves company, especially after playoffs apparently.

i feel for ya. As a habs fan that's had a soft spot for the leafs kids it's been fun to watch them drag this franchise back into relevance. I can't help but wonder if the pressure of Toronto has gotten to them and it's starting to just break them down. When you're young and fearless it's easier, hence the surprise playoff appearance 3 years back but now? They're older, they're making bank, it's starting to hit them and I think it's too much. Playing for the Leafs is an honor but it comes at a price. Their media is tough and the fans are passionate. I know Toronto is on a lot of no trade lists for that reason. Hey steve, if you look at the advanced stats (namely GF/60 and GA/60) Matthews has been easily the best Leafs' forward this season. He has 5.0GF/60 and only 2.5 GA/60. He has taken a huge step from last season, especially defensively. We should be happy at that progress he's made. Nylander has been consistently one of the leafs better defensive forwards as well. Again if you go by who is on the ice when the leafs score and who is on the ice when they allow goals. The biggest dropoff has come from Rielly, Marner, Kapanen and Tavares who have all taken huge hits in their play, especially in the d zone. All 4 of them are among the worst on the team in GA/60. Based on that, wonder if a lot of the leafs' struggles can be directly attributed to that second line (or first if you call it that) being basically out of commission all season and it's unfair to really judge the team until they get that line going. Also, Spezza and Petan have been brutal.

I used to be a Leafs fan until 2013. In 2013 I simply couldn't take the mismanagement and incompetence anymore, so I switched teams at that point. The team I switched to went through a hell of a lot of pain, but the past season has shown some signs of improvement. I'm so glad I no longer anguish over the Toronto Maple Leafs.

What you said about not expecting anything when they sucked, and hating it so much more now that they *should* be good, that's exactly what I've been thinking to myself this season. My almost 8-year-old daughter has declared that everything should be "Leafs Leafs Leafs" for her birthday and Christmas this year, and the last couple of weeks I've started to feel like I've doomed her to the same self-flagulating existence I experienced growing up a Leafs fan, after having had hope for the last couple of years that she might get to actually ENJOY growing up a Leafs fan. But this team IS good. I recently read Justin Bourne's piece from a couple of weeks ago on the Athletic where he explains some of why they might be struggling, and it helped put things into perspective for me. They ARE good; they're just going through a really shitty stretch right now. Do they need to make some changes to get themselves going? Hell yeah. Does that mean they need to replace the coach? I think so, but maybe not - I'm not "in the room" with them, so it's hard to say. Is it hopeless they can snap out of this because they are, in actuality, a genuinely bad team? I don't believe that, and I know you don't either. Guys like us, who are emotionally volatile and can get "stuck" when things don't go to plan, we have to be careful at times like this. The fire is great, it means you're still in. But the end of the last two LFRs has me worried about you, dude. Maybe it's time to move up your next appointment with the therapist? Get well, Dangle. And keep the faith that the Leafs will, too.
