I don't need him to be a full 200ft player but there are too many times where he's just watching the play and waiting for the puck instead of getting a little physical. Anyone catch the ODog on Overdrive on Friday His analysis was dead on. When Willie's game is going on all cylinders his game is A+. However as we know we can't expect A+ games from any player every game. When a player doesn't have his A+ game the expectation is that he will have a B game at the very least. So if he isn't scoringhe contributes in all other facets of the game. Willy doesn't have a B game. It's all or none. A or F. Nothing on between. The 200 ft game which Matthews had now mastered somehow has escaped Willy. Hopefully his benching last night may be the wake up call that he, the team and all of Leaf Nationso desperately needed to see. Go Leafs Go.

First off the Thorthon goal and the KK disallowed goal weren't the same. The one on Murray was pushed in from the front of the pad, where Murray had somewhat control of the puck, it being against the front of his pad. But the one on Andersen the puck was already behind him and even trickling towards the net, when KK pushed his pad. Second off that wasn't a "beautiful feed" from Speeza lol. On the replay you clearly see that Speeza was shooting on net, but hit the stick of Petry, and bounced on Kerfoot stick.

As a goalie, Freddy needs to make some saves on breakaways. Not even just in this game, but way too often he’s back in his crease and gets beat without the shooter even making a move. It’s the same reason he’s also been so bad in shootouts. I agree shootouts aren’t real hockey, but they do reveal the same problem (not being aggressive enough) that has plagued Freddy for years
@rodchallis80313 жыл бұрын
Yeah, The Big M's are something special, once in a lifetime thing maybe. Well, I'm just past 60, and I don't ever recall seeing that kind of magic on the Leafs. Nylander: I think Willie is maybe feeling that his main contribution is offense, so he's taking risks and doing stuff on that end of the game, trying to get 'on track' that way. Hopefully, last game gets him to adjust his focus a bit. For context, if William Nylander is this year's "problem", we are a happy fucking team indeed.

Does Matthews and Marner scoring so much take goals away from other players on the Leafs? Teams play differently when they are up... especially the Leafs.
@Tam0de3 жыл бұрын
Nah, the Leafs are more than just those 2 guys. They're a much deeper team than Edmonton, who's got the McDavid/Draisatl duo & no one else.
@richmayo22663 жыл бұрын
@@Tam0de Oh, I know the Leafs are a lot deeper, but I am suggesting that it MAY deflate the statistics of the other members of the team. You can only score once on a minor penalty. Once Matthews or Marner buries the biscuit, no one else on the team can. Further, a hockey game has an ebb and a flow. The other team often pushes and grabs the play back in response to a goal. My question is ... does scoring alter the statistical landscape and make the next goal from your team less (or more) likely? Is the first goal that breaks open a game in the second period statistically more valuable than the fourth goal that pads the lead? Is a fourth goal more likely to result in the next one going in for the opponent?
@JSargeK3 жыл бұрын
Not necessarily disagreeing with you, but if they score on that penalty does it matter that it may be taking a goal away from someone else? I would say no, I'd rather a big gun get the goal everytime if it means the goal actually gets scored. I mean we know they scored those goals... because they did. Sure someone else may have scored later in some other situation that would have arisen because the goal wasn't scored earlier, but like with money you take the most upfront and try to grow it over time rather than risking not having it later for a potential higher payout.

The leafs should go all the way this year. Its a short year, and barring injuries their offense is very very strong. My worry is their defense. 44 tends to get lazy out there, and the other defense is a bit weak. Freddy is damn good, and can stand on his head when it is needed, but his gas tank is not huge. Right now the forwards are picking up the slack in the defensive area, and its working. If they don't make it all the way this year, it will because of their defense. I just don't have any confidence in them, I feel when they have to pick it up, they will fall far short, this intern will lower the moral of the whole team, and they will fall apart. Remember a team is only as strong as their weakest link, and those defensive links are weak as hell.
@LukasDavies3 жыл бұрын
I think in alot of ways this season in particular actually benefits goal scorers. Instead of seeing 31+ goalies a season Mathews is seeing 6 consistantly and the backups whenever a coach is crazy enough to feed them to Toronto. A player that intelligent is going to pickup on tendencies of not only the goaltenders but the defensive coverage and take advantage of it when he gets his chances. Also helps that he has some of the best passsers in the league feeding him the puck. As a Canucks fan if we manage to make playoffs after our horrendous start Toronto is the last team I want them to face.
