Please advise if you need a tv with an ARC hdmi? I would like one of these systems but my tv is old and doesnt have ARC?

Can someone please help me? I have this surround sound system and also an Xbox One S and a Samsung Ue65KS8080 TV. But (I think) since I have the Xbox One S I can't change in the audio settings of my Xbox to Surround Sound 5.1 or 7.1. Just Stereo is possible. There is always an error popping, my surround sound system wouldn't support 5.1 / 7.1 which is not true... What did I wrong? I tried it with HDMI Cables as well as with Optical... Thank you for your support!
