Great news, my new LG TV can play HEVC 4k HDR content streamed from my PC, incredible! I was under the impression that HEVC is not supported, I bought it anyway, but today I created a windows media server, went to the TV, saw it, opened a 13GB HEVC 4K HDR Alita Battle Angel movie and it looks absolutely incredible.

There is no information about the format of the hard drive required to mount and access the drive on the LG TV. I have formatted the drive in ExFAT, but none of the media files are accessible using the TV. Any recommendations? Is there another media player app, with more codecs, that can be downloaded to TV?

Hey there. If you're having trouble viewing media files on your LG TV due to a hard drive formatted in ExFAT, you'll need to reformat it to FAT32 or NTFS for compatibility. Simply connect your hard drive to a computer, use the disk management tool to format it to either FAT32 or NTFS, and then reconnect it to your LG TV. Once connected, use your remote to navigate to the Input section, select USB Drive, and access your media files. When i put a usb drive in LG tv it tell me to format, format and after i take the usb drive back to my laptop to put a movie on the usb drive and it tell me that is not enough space even if the movie have 5gb and i have 57gb free space....what can i do?

encountered same issue today. probably the TV formats the usb storage to exFAT formation that is an old type of storage and cant hold on big files. so when you put it back and generally when a flash drive cant save big file in your PC reformat it in NTFS mode and it will be ok !!!

Use NTFS formatting and try to limit the storage to no more than 32 gig.

I have a Synology NAS that works fine. My LG TV finds the NAS and displays it’s name, when I click on it I see Music, Video and Photo folders. When I click on a folder it asks if I want to display by Playlist, Album etc, when I do click on one of these options I am told that NO photo, Video files or folders exist in storage device. Any ideas? Thanks.

Greg Wilson I gave up and bought a QNAP NAS. It is a very nice device but once again the documentation leaves a lot to be desired. The instructions need to be VERY precise, but they are not. I see no choice but to do a lot of experimentation.Good Luck.

Buy an android TV. If you want to play digital files, the media player built into LG tvs isn't good enough.

I have a Seagate USB hard drive attached to my router with movies on it... They are all visible through the TV's USB connection, but when trying to view them wirelessly, the folders haven't refreshed since the first time I connected that device, even though I've added and deleted/moved some files around (ia my PC to the router)... There seems to be something seriously wrong with the caching in this system :-(

thanks.. how do you do this from a Mac ( i dont like plex. too unstable). for a while i could just link a file direct and it would show up ( ie. iMac would show as a server)

When trying to use the Music Playlist, I always experience this error and cannot play any mp3 file: "Music cannot be played because the internal database of the music player exceeds the size limit". Any idea what that is? Is there any way to expand the TV's system storage capacity or rather point it to an external USB Drive that has free storage?

I know this is old, but I think the TV uses an ex-Fat 32 file system. This system is good for up to 4 GB files. The newer NTFS system will handle larger files, but it may not be compatible with the TV. I ran into this on my ROKU TV recently. I am unsure if this will solve your problem, but it is possible.

Figured out what I had done. My TV has an app called, 'Photos and Videos' that wirelessly connects to other devices that are connected to the same internet signal it is and I can view photos and videos on my TV from those devices. Have a, 'Music' app too but it's just for music.

I did it with PS3 media server installed on my pc. It's an old app, but it still works with my 2018 LG tv. I start the server on my PC, then look in the input section of the TV, and click on PS3 media server input, and you can browse all your drives on the PC, and play the appropriate media files on the TV. You have to select the appropriate media type on the TV before going into the PC. There's even an LG smart tv renderer in the settings for the media server that I keep set as the default. You need them both on your home network. Google PS3 media server and you can find the install for your PC.

I have the LG UJ7700 so the steps might not be exactly the same... 1. Hit the button that looks like a house and says "Recents" under it (on mine it's under the Volume Down button) 2. Scroll over to the Photos & Videos tab and select it 3. Scroll to "Captured Images" and select that 4. Scroll up to the four icons in the upper right hand corner. Scroll to the one that looks like a garbage can and select it 5. Scroll down to the image you want to delete, highlight and select it 6. Scroll back up to the upper right hand corner and scroll to Delete. Select that 7. When the prompt pops up, scroll to "Yes" and select that 8. Curse Lucky Goldstar for not making the process easier (you can choose to Select All somewhere around Step 4) Hope that helps...

The built in media player software is mediocre. It only plays a handful of file types and does so poorly. Any third party software whatsoever would be better, but LG took care of that problem by making the built in software your only option.

What a heap of dogpile. Every other TV, laptop, pc in the house can do file sharing. They are all discoverable and work perfectly well. And then I purchased an LG which does not want to be found, so it cant play any of the media I have on the pc. Download your crapware... No. There shouldnt be a need for the LG.
