but what's the point of having a phone with a removable battery if you can't upgrade it? my s2 came with a 1800mah battery which was a pile of shit so I bought a 3800mah battery for $15 on Amazon. The only batteries available for the g5 are 2800mah.

+Gavin Stanford it's not even 16MP vs 12MP.. it's actually 16MP vs 9.1MP because who the f wants to use 4:3 on a 16:9 screen. Once you fix the ratio and set it to 16:9, bam..9.1MP left. The camera is better on the G5. The S7 has better screen, longer battery , faster focus and wireless charging. It really depends what you are looking for.. for the camera enthusiast, G5 is better.
@sebastiento9695

i don't understand why so many reviewers has flawed units. I visited like 10 different stores here, ALL G5 were FLAWLESS. Build quality is *GOOD*, issue is the QC (at least in America, lol). Even JerryRigEverything couldn't bend the G5 at all (apart from the chin, which surprisingly still worked!) It's not made of cheap pretty metal like the 6P or the Mi5. Or the easy to break glass phones! Depending on how extreme the light is, and also if there's thermal throbbing, the G5 can technically reach 900 nits. Multi-window will come out as native in Android N, just a matter of time! :P Honestly, I never expected the G5 to look better than the S7. As you said, the G4 felt better than the S6, that's because LG polished the G3 into a better device. This year, it's the opposite! Samsung polished the S6 to S7, while LG took a whole new direction with the G5. I don't agree to call LG's innovation a fail.

IMO the poor sales of the G5 are a result of people being sheep and afraid of any change. The modular design is purely a neat addition. You never have to utilize it if you don't want to. Slap a case on it and call it good. However that being said, it would be nice to know if you were going camping or something you could simply insert a new charged battery in 5 seconds. I'm willing to concede that the S7 may indeed be a better phone, but considering the specs and performance is it really $300 better? I'd say no chance in hell
@MegaGouch
@MegaGouch 8 жыл бұрын
Or perhaps people just prefer Samsung or Apple? Doesn't make all people afraid of change. Galaxy S7 and Note 7 are both waterproof, for some people that will be the reason they buy them.
@Saska2oon
@Saska2oon 8 жыл бұрын
MegaGouch Being waterproof doesn't change the fundamental design of the phone. People already will drop 100 bucks for a life proof case, so Samsung just eliminated a need that already existed in the market place. LG decided to take a stab in the dark and design a phone that had never been seen before. Even with what I just said, I do agree with you. Some people prefer Samsung or Apple and that is fine. I'm just saying that from a spec standpoint running an almost pure Android experience there is no reason the G5 should cost $300 dollars less than the latest apple or Samsung models.
@MegaGouch
@MegaGouch 8 жыл бұрын
Unless you dont want the added bulk and pain that comes with a lifeproof case. There are many people who wont put their phones in any case as the like them slim and thin. The Sony Z line was popular for people who wanted a waterproof phone and the Galaxy S5 was obviously popular enough they bought back the waterproof rating for the S7.

i have a G5 and i do love it. when deciding between the g5 and s7 the lack of removable battery on the s7 made the choice for me. everyone knows batteries die, no matter how good they are. so when buying a phone with out a removable battery. you are buying an expensive paper weight. samsungs argument are these: are batteries are better than ever! (but they will still die) and customers will buy a new phone before the battery dies. after i switch phones your old phone can still be used for SO much. mp3 player, video player, web browser(wifi), gps with predownloaded maps, word processing, camera(wifi camera)baby monitor, game device, vr box with or without a computer, ect. keep your phone a live with a removable battery.

In the real world if you are looking for a long term like stuck with 1 single phone for 2-3 years. LG G5 modular design is actually practical for mediocre self repair in case if something goes wrong. the modular design is actually applied in the inner part. Check out the disassembly video for G5 and you will understand. Changing your battery with ease after 1 year or so is actually very important. No more sticky glue crap like the rest of them esp waterproof phones which will lose the feature once you open it and also costly.

I think LG G5 is a great device bcoz of modular design, wide angle camera and I love the fact that they haven't removed the IR blaster like other companies did, but nothing is perfect in this world so instead of looking at the drawbacks LG G5 is a perfect device in my opinion, only water resistance is absent on it and nothing else...

If there was a small non-swappable battery that can hold enough power for a small time or a plug that could keep power in, I guess that would make it possible. That or being able to have multiple batteries to power it. Etc. (like the non-swappable battery I was talking about, re-word this with "not swapped" battery, but swappable).

+Videocrazymachine I checked again and it's a £200 gap now but thag's still a lot, the price was what influenced my decision more the anything else. Most people from England seem to like it as well. After looking at some of the American ones quite a lot are AT and T phones which maybe that's why they might not be so good? I really don't know much about the American phones but the fact that loads of Americans hate it yet loads of English people do does seem a bit weird

100% Agree, Camera is fantastic along with battery life. Overall software experience is great because of the specs. On the bad side, using it outdoors can be irritating. Because it has a thin aluminium back with a huge plastic coating I would imagine the phones would look like shit after 6 months. I love it. The camera is outstanding, the wide angle is a killer (and the only phone to have it right now), it feels pretty light. The phone is snappy but all phones use the SD820 so that's not a surprise. I got it mainly for the camera really..wanted to have the best and the 12MP 4:3 seemed pretty bad on the S7. I already got decent 13MP 4:3 photos on the G2. Wanted a real upgrade which isn't just faster focus. Seriously, I compared the G2 and the S7 at the store and there was almost no difference is detail..it just focused faster and did better job handling artificial light. The G5 is a whole different level. Much more detail when zooming it, it has better manual controls (3 times longer exposure) and the wide angle.. although just 8MP, saved me many times in my trip to Europe. Video I think is better on the S7 though and the build quality feels better. I have a case on it anyway so I couldn't care less. Also , the volume button are pressed to easily , but that's also fixed with a case.

I really like the wide angle of the G5, but the general quality of the Samsung camera is so much better (I repeat, this isn't only my personal opinion). You should have bought the S7, dude.
@MorkusReX
@MorkusReX 8 жыл бұрын
+Minoxis Nope. the 12MP becomes 9.1MP when using 16:9.. once you zoom in you will see the difference. The S7 is a great phone, the camera is overall better on the G5. Sure, if I will lower the quality to 12MP 4:3 on the G5 , the S7 will probably have a slight advantage, but thats the thing, the G5 is not limited to that. it can do 16:9 at 16MP, it can do better macros, it can do wide angle shots, it can do 30 seconds long exposure, it doesnt over sharpen photos (well, it does but not nearly as the S7). Again, the S7 is a great phone , I'm sure you will be happy with it.

+Danny Winget A phone and a car are different animals...you can't compare the 2. Do people put cases on cars to protect them? No! The look of the device imo is unimportant. You're going to spend 99% of your time looking at the screen. You will do everything that needs to be done with the screen with the exception of a few things. Aside from the size to screen ratio...The look of the device does not matter...performance is what creates the user experience. It's a phone not a fashion statement

I'm disappointed in the G5. I thought it would combine the best of the V10 and G4. Instead they took a left. This could have been it's own line, with the excellent tradition of the G3 and G4 continued with improvements.

Great review! I've been sticking with LG since the G2, I've just bought a G5. Man what an improvement, the OS is so smooth, and this new wide camera is just absurdly good. The one thing most plp criticize and I really enjoy is the phone design, it's very clean, so much to a point that it looks apart from the rest and beautiful.

Good updated review, but try easing up on the motion tracking. The shot at 1:18 with the USB C Port is just awkward and unnecessary. I get that motion tracking is the "it" thing with a lot of tech reviews at the moment, but it's getting a bit overplayed. It's a cool effect and After Effects makes it easy enough, but it's just getting old.

There is a huge failure in the Camera "Friend" module. They made it with a USB 2.0 port rather than the USB 3.1 port. In other words, NO Quick Charge while the Camera module is in place. In fact charging through the Camera module is slower in general. I tried it and after charging it for 2 hours it only gained 15% of a charge. Very disappointing,indeed. And a dishonorable and dishonest way to save a couple of pennies.

Being able to change the battery from a drained one to 100% in a few seconds alone is a huge plus for me. LG G5 is a good phone. I have one and love it. In the long run the s7 and s7 edge will not charge to full capacity anymore. Then what do you do? Toss the phone out? Buy another one?

Nice video man! I've had mine for two months as well and am very pleased with it so far. YES they removed the app drawer so it is more "iPhoney" but, for me, it works just fine with just having my apps in folders. And I found the phone to lag just a bit with the app drawer enabled. Now, in my region, the only available item is the still the camera module. I haven't been able to purchase extra batteries nor a cover or a charger. Sucks balls but I guess the rest is coming through the summer.

After owning a htc one m9 for a while (had lots of problems; overheating, camera app not working and the g sensor failing) the only downside to my LG g5 is that it doesn't have front facing speakers. But I got an extra battery and the cam plus for free with my phone. So I'm really happy with it. 10/10

Great review! I've owned the G5 for a few months now too and I agree with everything that was said here. The two things that are my biggest dislikes about this are 1) the GPS has issues and 2) the frame is warped. The frame being ever so slightly warped drives me nuts! Overall, it IS a really good phone. But the devil's in the details, right?

I have a G5 and am very happy with it. A detachable battery is extremely important to me, and I'm glad that LG still has that feature. My only real complaint about the phone is that the fingerprint sensor is unreliable. But honestly, I think cell phone design reached perfection when the Note 4 came out. A stylus pen, removable battery, expandable storage, dedicated home and back buttons- rather than the digital ones they have now. I'm sad they don't make phones like that anymore...
@bassyks
@bassyks 8 жыл бұрын
Danny, Thank you for such an honest review. Most of the reviews are either black or white, you are travelling in the grey areas pretty well. Other than that, I don't know if there are still people out there who use their phones without a case. When I plan to buy a new phone, after curing the list to a few candidates, the first thing I do is to look for case offerings. Shockproof cases are my priority and the simplistic looks also matter, spigen for example. After that I read all the reviews from liable sources and watch youtube reviewers just like you. I have bought an LG G5 last Saturday and I'm whooped. I've been a regular nexus user so far, yet since Turkey has some problems with importing nexus units, I've decided not to wait for new nexus models. The phone is so good. The most important downside you have mentioned in the video is the slickness of the buttons. However, I prefer to carry my phone on my side pockets with an Ozaki O'tool stylus. Since the stylus is a thick one, protuberant keys are a downside for me as the buttons are sometimes clicked inadvertently. So far so good, I have not had that issue with LG G5 and my new case gives me a direct point blank interaction with the keys as the locations are prominent due to the case's design. All in all the phone is great and one the best features is the fingerprint sensor. It's amazingly fast and accurate. The other thing is that I love simple and boring designs, nexus 5 was my love prior to G5. As a matter of fact, all I want to look at is the screen, I don't want to french kiss my phone or have hard on for it. Brightness seem to be a issue in most of the reviews, yet the auto mode is pretty nit maniac IMO. Istanbul is pretty hot and sunny for the last 6 weeks, and during my time with G5 outside, under direct sunlight I've had no issues with the screen visibility. You should keep the auto mode of screen lighting on, I think. Again, thank you for that honest review. Have a nice day.
