Amazing!!! Just saved me $30. Did it exactly how you did only I used a tooth pick and just glued the inside of wheel to it and then was able to push the tip thru the other hole on remote. No sanding. But dude your a life saver I never would have thought to drill out the wheel n use dowel. I was tryn to glue piece plastic to end of wheel. FYI it didn’t work. lol. Thanx again!

unbelievable. it actually worked. i worked a toothpick so often with the nail dart that it worked cleanly in the end. i simply saved 75 euros for a new remote control. Thank you very much for this ingenious idea.

Thanks for the video, it was a great help! I only broke part of the switch. So I replaced the shaft with wire. I needed a gas welder, pliers and used the wire insulation for a spacer. I chose wire with PVC coating. Good luck with the disassembly and repair everyone!

This tutorial was awesome. No Bs, straight to the point and easy to follow. I didnt have drill to make the hole so I used small screw to make the hole by screwing it into the plastic from closed end and then removed it. That said, if you can get small drill use that! Much easier and less time consuming and risk to break the wheel.

Amazing. Quick Tip for me: For opening controller use credit card from the bottom up , and use toothstick it’s much easier to cut size also with nails clipper and adjust with small knife . Cheers

I too fixed an LG remote with a toothpick! Shaved it down with a single edge razor blade and jammed it in.

@@ansn5108 Make the stick long, push it into the wheel. Place teh wheel in plac and push the stick further. When connection works, cut the stick yhat isn´t used.

​@@osopolarmovies just did the exact same thing. Bored out both the wheel and the base then pushed a long toothpick through until snug, then clipped the ends. Worked like a charm

I have done this method over a year ago and it failed after about 10 months. The problem is that the wheel is for two functions - rolling and clicking. Clicking makes the wood to fail after a while. Do you know the correct size of aluminium rod that can be used instead of wood?

I have a question... Got the press down click to work but the spinning wheel seems way to smooth now and doesnt react? Does the toothpick need to be hardly pressed into the "sensor" on the motherboard?

A normal toothstick in normally thion and the the movement from the wheel will not affect "the sensor". I used a grill stick.

Now on my second broken wheel remote. With 3 other options in additon to the spinning wheel to move around the TV is so dumb they make the ONLY place to push ENTER the same wheel? You have the red cursor arrow, the up and down control arrows and the arrows around the circle. But only one way to Enter. It should be a stationary button. And I plan to write to them. If they made a new remote like that I would buy it. 3 years ago we got the smart TV. Then a year ago the remote broke.I watched all these videos but decided to order a new one and ony one was the identical LG remote. A year later wheel broken again!

I did similar fix but used a 2mm diameter nail instead so now my axle is metal. I secured it with epoxy.

Thank you for the video. I fixed it. The tickness of the plastic that holds the scroll wheel is laughable honestly. Shame on LG. Small tip for 'driling' the hole. Heat up a tip of a needle, paperclip or similar thin peace of metal then puncture the side of the wheel. Then push a top of toothpick in it. Shorten it so you can fit it in the mechanism. After the fix it feels more sturdy 🙂

This doesn’t open the way he is showing us. I have 2 lg tvs with this unfortunate remote . I bought 3 replacements already, that’s how bad they are. Every time I managed to open them it took a lot of work. Screwdriver in between sides WONT work. You will hurt yourself and scuff the side terribly. Be careful u are going to hunt your hand.
