LG portable air conditioner not blowing cold [Fixed!] part II

LG0817 air conditioner part II with a working compressor, clean exterior filters and yet still not cooling. I took an AC course in 1993 at Northeast Institute in Boston when unemployed. Prior to repair, when touching the pipes next to the evaporator (top) , the pipes were not cool , like they should have been.
Prior to repair, when touching the pipes next to the condenser(bottom) , the pipes were not too hot to the touch, as they should have been. The compressor was getting too hot, which it should not be doing. This part II shows me cleaning first the bottom condenser and then the top evaporator with a toothbrush taped to a long wooden spoon to reach inside the unit. After the repair, the evaporator pipes felt cooler and the condenser pipes felt hot. Sorry about the quality of the audio, but it's a digital camera taking the video. After the cleaning, it didn't work like new, but it cooled a small room within 15 minutes. Apparently the filters were clogged and the junk in the air went around the filters into the fins of the condenser and evaporator, ruining operating characteristics. Fix it better spraying "simple green" on the fins of the evaporator and condenser bit by bit and scrubbing again. Scrubbing the evaporator and condenser fins may help make a window air conditioner work better too. this ac unit works now, but just barely. With the back off, if you look at the coils on the side of the evaporator, you should see a thin layer of ice on the coils during operation. There's nothing except dripping water. My ac will cool the room from 84 to say 75, but that's it. I don't think LC put enough refrigerant in the piping when they built it . The appliance place down the street won't work on portable AC since we are a disposable society. I cleaned out my window ac which is 6000 btu and it works better than this LG 8000 btu because it has a good load of refrigerant in it.

@@inhibited44 mine is working fine but I hate looking at the internal coils covered in dust.i honestly have cleaned the filters daily since I got it the start of summer smh.it gets in no matter what it seems

Don't laugh i didn't remove the dam handles lmao I unscrewed them but yeah so do I pry them away after I unscrew them? I may be a dunce lol guessing the reason I wasant able to remove the back panel,

@@frankhandy7345 It was a few months ago, but I think I did stick my hands between the plastic housing and the frame in few places to get it to let go. I think there were two screws at the very bottom of the sides too.

How do you remove the back to clean the internal coil??????

Had to go look for additional screws to remove on the top and on the sides, but it came off easy enough.

other thing you can do is tape a toothbrush to something long, like a wooden dowel, sneak it in there and clean it that way without taking the back off.

@@inhibited44 so before I cleaned all the parts I was able to reach I did take a long thin paint brush and got a little dirt off the inside coils so next season lol I'm gonna definitely remove both front and back as it seems they both have to come off to clean it.the model this one replaced about 4 hrs ago had access to both sets of coils.go figure..Thnx 4 taking the time out to try and help..

I guess you can't attach images of your ac's evaporator on the top and the condenser on the bottom. Just make sure they are cleaned out with that toothbush and clean the filter on the plastic housing too.

Make sure you have the vent pipe attached to the back of the unit and the vent pipe's exhaust secured in the window. I raise my unit up on chair too near the window and keep the hose straight because it lets the AC unit's exhaust dump hot air out the window easier.

make sure you hear the compressor turn off when the temperature is set to 80 degrees and on when the temp is set to 60 something degrees. If the compressor is not working, it won't cool.

My LG air conditioner never worked well from beginning. It was ok, but I noticed the other day that one side of the condensor is getting hot and half way through the condensor is cool. whole thing should at least be warm to touch. I think the manufacture has a big bead of solder blocking flow in the condenser. Nothing I can do about that.
