LG took the Apple approach here and won. Second to market but a marked improvement over the GE offering. What a striking design. The self cleaning coils, internal heater, TurboWash jets and better ergonomics easily put it over the edge. The only advantage I can identify for the GE is its dewrinkle cycle unless LG just omitted that from the manual.

@LifeStyleUpgradeYT11 ай бұрын
@@youtubeuser8426 Yes steam is only an option on LG for wash + dry or wash only. For the GE Ultrafast: "The Dewrinkle feature is a dedicated 35 minute Timed Dry cycle that introduces a small amount of water vapor onto the garments and uses heat and high speed air to assist with dewrinkling the garments. It is designed for loads of 1 to 8 light to medium weight garments." On the LG if you need to do this after the clothes are already washed, you can also run it on a 30 minute Timed Dry cycle and spritz the clothing with water for the same effect. There isn't a special tumbling mode, it's just a timed dry with a bit of water!

@nathanbentley193910 ай бұрын
I'm concerned about the self-cleaning coils, specifically in regards to what the machine actually does with the lint that it washes off. The GE profile's lint filter was designed the way it was specifically to prevent the all-too-common issue of the machine seizing up due to internal lint buildup. I wish someone would actually examine where washed-off lint is going, because if it's not being removed from the machine, or sent to a place where it can be removed, I fear it will inevitably lead to precisely this problem. Something else I'd personally like to bring up that annoys me with the LG machine is that, like with most old-school machines, on most cycles, the dry cycle is disabled by default, and you have to tell it that you want it to dry. I think the GE profile is more intuitive in this regard, as the dry cycle is built in, and you're given the option to disable one or the other.

How/why does the LG unit unit have a larger capacity but smaller dimensions?
@LifeStyleUpgradeYT11 ай бұрын
The extra height for the GE Ultrafast is entirely used by the new heatpump and turbo fan. Possibly GE didn't want to mess with the existing design for the washer/dryer and so they plopped the heatpump on top and maybe LG was more comfortable (or had a larger budget) to move a things around more.

As you would see on my KZbin channel, I purchased the GE unit last July. The performance is STELLAR, but I've known since the second week of ownership that lint collection on the fins is going to be the most common failure mode. Not only does lint bypass the filter and collect on the fins, but there's no way to clean them effectively without disassembling the head of the unit. My question for you, if it's even a fair one... If you had money to burn, and we're concerned with performance AND ease of use/maintenance and longevity, which would you choose? Is there any real reason to choose the GE over the LG? I'm within a hair's breadth of replacing my 9 month old GE with the LG, as I do have disposable income and am sick of having to be fastidious about keeping my shop vac in my laundry room and using it between every load.
@LifeStyleUpgradeYT10 ай бұрын
If I had money and space to burn I’d probably get two LG units, that way you can better separate clothes (color clothes, white clothes, linty towels etc.) or run multiple loads. So you might want to keep the GE unit as a second and use it for less linty items like jeans or “ironing”, (if you were going to discard or sell for pennies, might as well just use it till it breaks without vacuuming each time)
@migbham110 ай бұрын
@@LifeStyleUpgradeYT That's the likely outcome here. I finally broke down today and spent a half day disassembling, really cleaning all of the lint out, and then putting it back together. @@LifeStyleUpgradeYT I noticed you mentioned "induction motor" - all AC motors are induction (except universal motors like used in vacuums etc), what's unique about LG is that they use an "inverter" for smooth speed control and are direct drive - just one huge rotor behind the outer wash tub directly attached to the single rotating shaft. GE also uses an inverter for speed control, but is belt driven. The direct drive is a better design for sure, but I have to admit that the belt is rarely the weakest point of any washer.

That's true for the old generation ventless units. These new generation units, both the LG Combowash and GE Ultrafast have sealed dryer units - the air recirculates within the washer (and water is dumped in the drain) and they don't vent into the house. They don't appear to add measurably more humidity compared to a vented dryer. They are basically reverse refrigerators.

You mention that the WashCombo saves on heating/cooling the home since it doesn’t vent air. The opposite should be true, if the dryer vents hot air out of the house it will remove energy from the system (your house) while a heat pump will keep the energy contained within the house. This will hold true for washers/dryers that use the same amount of energy, but the WashCombo may still run cooler if it uses significantly less energy.
