LGBT Manga || good reads for Pride month

you know it seems manga and anime have featured lgbt characters and themes more than western cartoons and comics- outside of indie works- yet its often western media criticizing manga and anime for being too liberal!

I agree, although I do also think a lot of popular Japanese media contains obvious conservatism that is worth being criticised or acknowledged (extreme nationalism/xenophobia, societal misogyny & sexism, etc). It's also important to consider the complicated history of yuri&BL manga with the Japanese LGBT community as most are written by and for those outside the community--Only now are LGBT mangaka becoming more well known (& their works being licensed). Comparatively, most LGBT comics (indie or otherwise) in the West are written by LGBT individuals who are wanting to tell and share their own experiences.

Wonderful list!! ❤️ Seven Days is so good, I hear the sunspot is phenomenal too. Yoneda Kou is one of my favorite BL authors, her manga is always so lovely. I'm getting My brother's husband soon, can't wait to read it.

4:47 - Similar to this but GL is "She loves to Cook and She loves to Eat" - based on food, building relationships, coming to term with sexuality, lesbianism, they're both adult women, they aren't in a relationship at the beginning of the manga though! They're strangers at first.

Really great list! I skipped Even So I'll Love You Tenderly because I didn't really care for No Touching at All. I will have to give it a read ASAP because Even So sounds very up my alley. I also wanted to point out that Yuhki Kamatani is asexual in addition to being x-gender. Their asexuality unfortunately often gets left out of discussion of their work, even though it has a prominent influence.

I'm glad this video could encourage you to try Even So! It's definitely my favourite of the two. Thanks for the reminder about Kamatani's asexuality; I agree that it's a shame that that aspect of their identity is often overlooked or ignored, especially when considering their body of work. I also hope we see more of their work in English soon!!

my friend keeps on telling me to read what did you eat yesterday for ages, also they really liked the live action adaptation. and yes to kase san, 10 dance, the bride was a boy, bloom into you and of course our dreams in dusk, i love them so much. i'm curious about even so i will love you tenderly, i read not touching at all and wasn't a fan but i'm willing to give them another try

Glad I already have a lot of these. I was worried lol I gave up on Wondering Son to be honest. Once/if I had a way to get it digital I would on that one. Still need to pick up 3 more of these but excited about the rerelease of that one by the Ten Count. Sorry bad with names. That one sounds so inyeresting. The Juné release, yes, but I also mention that the series was recently relicensed by Viz as a 2-in-1 omnibus for release later in the year.
