FEATURED LOCATION: Maui offshore, Hawai'i.
FEATURED SPECIES: Razorfish (Nabeta), Sea Bass (Hapu'upu'u), Gray Snapper (Uku).
It's dawn patrol for us! We are on the ocean right offshore of Maui. The bottom fishing action gets off to a good start with Nabeta (Razorfish) being boated! This fish is considered a prize by local seafood gourmets.
But the big bonus was the Hapu'upu'u (Sea Bass). Few bottom fish are considered more desirable than this one. And by the end of the trip the boat's cooler had more than a few keepers, including Uku (Gray Snapper).
Then this happpened. Our half day of fishing was punctuated with a surprise visit by whales! Out on the ocean anything can happen!
