Well, expecting more seems kind of futile since that's exactly how HD remakes tend to go. The same game, just with better graphics, newer hardware compatibility, and maybe some slight gameplay tweaks. It delivered exactly what I wanted, which is Painkiller but with a fresh coat of paint. Hopefully this is successful so a proper sequel makes financial sense.

It's unimportant in the grand scheme of things, but it sure is neat to see a remake as a big fan of the original. And this one shore is purdy. I think the idea is more to reinvigorate the existing fanbase who have been burned over the years and even create some new fans. It's a series that could use a good shot in the arm and this is a nice way to judge interest in a proper sequel.

interesting, this game went totally under my radar! This is the kind of game I play when I'm feeling like a teenager. I call it Duke mode because Duke 3D was the first game like this that I discovered when I was 13. I would love to see Duke 3D remade, same maps, same everything, just with a graphics makeover so that the enemies look as good as they do in this game. I'd be totally happy playing the same game but with prettier graphics.

Unfortunately no way to change field of view in the menu it seems, but it's an Unreal Engine 3 game so you can just adjust it through an INI tweak. Was set at a 100 degree FOV for this video.

the painkiller weapon behaves differently... speeds on some enemies are different, bunnyhop is sort of broken.... you cant turn off/on action music, you can't swap between weapon modes, no shortcuts... quite bad for someone who played painkiller more hardcore.... interesing that Dan remembers the events of previous painkiller.... =D

@@Zibit21 No every weapon has primary and secondary fire MODE. In originally you could mix and match having secondary attack from different weapon assigned to any other.

Yes and no. Yes, in the sense that this is a nice and welcome refresh to the game, which is getting on up in years now. No, in the sense that it's really the same game, but with less levels.

Did you know if you use the lightning alt fire and then while holding it fire a shuriken, it will launch an electrified shuriken that will shock anyone who comes within a few feet of it? Works if it's in a wall or w/e too

Everything is replaced except many of the sound effects. New models, new textures, some new level layouts, new music, new physics model, entire new engine, new cutscenes and story, etc.

I have no idea, that's a question for EA really. But it sounds like it's a pre-order exclusive from what you're saying, and traditionally that's the only way to get these things: pre-ordering.

The shuriken gun always had me wondering if the fellas at PCF didn't play a lot of WH40K. If you liked this, give Will Rock a try if you can find it. Though I'm guessing you already have. The only real gripe I have with this version is that they _did_ re-introduce some of the original levels that were cut out, but as part of DLC packages. And the salt in the wound comes from the official response from Nordic, being "We realised that $20 was too low a price point for the base game, so all DLC is $7 extra."

Very much a fan of the RWS Postal games, very much against Russian Postal (aka Postal 3). I hope to do videos on them eventually, but I have touched on Postal 2 in my Top 17 Best PC Games of the 2000's list.

As a massive fan of the first Painkiller (completing the game several times, hardest difficulties, all secrets and tarot cards), I'm now looking foward to this one. I wasn't enterieley sure about it when it was first announced, because of several changes, but, when I've listened to new Opera music, I've got "fuck yeah" goosebumps. Yes! this may be it! It somewhat looks even quicker and more action packed than the first game. It won't overshadow the legend, but, it's definitely an epic comeback.

Being an Old school FPS fan, This is a must have for me. I really liked the level and enemy variation. My favorite level was the Asylum for its sudden change of mood and the enemies that reside in that mental place ( With the restraining jackets and all). Which level did you liked the most, Clint?

Oh wow. The graphics are MUCH better here! Do you know if it's using the NecroVision engine? It looks as if it runs smoother, not only in animations but framerate and movement/aiming as well.

Hey LGR, have you ever played Darkwatch? It was released for the PS2 and Xbox by High Moon Studios and published by Capcom. Very cool and fun game. Painkiller and Darkwatch have a similar aesthetic and 'lore' (kind of).

If I remember correctly, and I could be totally wrong, but the creator of the game actually picked the name of the game because of Judas Priest. I remember reading in a magazine that he thought "Painkiller" sounded like a badass name for a game, not realizing that a painkiller is really just an aspirin, LOL! Apparently, he looked it up on the internet, and the first thing that came up was Judas Priest's Painkiller, so he was like "It's perfect!" and the name stuck.

as i see, unfortunately nothing is new except the menus and the textures... and the videos are different because of the storyline.... but this game is pretty weak... it's just a mixture of the really first pankiller and it's expansion battle out of hell... i liked the original much more! also this new version has a lot of bugs... almost nothing has changed with this version, only the graphics got better... but ex. the physics model and maps are the same... oh, and most of the weapons...

when I go to the mindless killing games I always prefered Serious Sam over the Painkiller actually I find Painkiller pretty much boring, but thats just my opinion

Comparing it to Doom and Quake seems odd, because those games had inventive and non-linear level designs, whereas Painkiller is very boxed in and has no truly memorable architecture. That said, it's still fun.

Interesting decision for a remake. Eve looks like she's in her late 40s, eternal or otherwise; not sure if that's deliberate. Also, giant bosses look awesome but something the size of a skyscraper dying from anything less than a nuclear bomb? That's a pretty dated concept. Also, chain links the size of buses just disappear as they hit the ground.

remember that after the addon Battle out of hell, the sequels of the original one painkiller were made by other companies than people can fly, so this is the main reason of the weaker quality.

yes, that's exactly the answer i expected... to be honest i first played it through myself and watched your video after... i think it is better, trying out games myself to get a proper picture of the game! and to be honest, i was also a big fan of the first episode, but then P.C.F. sold this TM, and yes, after that the series got worse... much worse! and yes, this does look pretty like a HD remake... but to be honest, i missed so maps in this new version which ones i enjoyed in the first part...
