Li Jie is a phenomenon; here at about 14 years old she demonstrates more talent and poise than most after playing for 14 years. How can anyone criticize or admonish her playing? Just awesome!

I think this is the finest version of Sunburst I have heard. I love the way she moves her right hand closer to or further from the bridge to change the timbre of the sound. And every note that I can tell is crisp and executed perfectly. Magical!

Because of her teacher Chen Zhi. When teaching her this tune, it was very funny. He told Li Jie that you imagine a cowboy riding a horse in the west, then the sun kept shining on him, and then he was sweating. This is Sunburst. Without sweat, there would be no Sunburst. Li Jie is not a girl who loves to laugh, but then she smiled.

She makes a mistake but the guitar sound plays it right. at 02:17 she plays 6th string (no fret), and it plays the E note. But it should be the D note. moments later she plays again the same string in the same position and it makes a D. Obviously this was recorded over, but how did they pull it off so well?

Chen Zhi is a great teacher. Li Jie got god given talent. Her play was great at such a young age because of her talent + the mind at that age was pure.

If the performer would play like this in the wilderness with different clothes on, no one would ever complained about it being played soulless. The mere fact that she chose this song to perform shows that she does really care about fine guitar music: two thumbs up here!

The smoothest and most accurate technical execution ever of this song, with just the right amount of personal interpretation in her picking inflections and positions - all other you tube versions show the player struggling at times - including York himself!!

Soul in music doesn't come from someone screwing something up. Soul in music comes from how well you can express it through playing. This piece is very beutiful and I'm deciding whether I like this version or the original. This definently rivals it.

Well perhaps for the purposes of you tube the tuning parts were cut off because the pieces that are being played are uploaded as individual videos instead of a full real time 1.5 hr concert. Or perhaps there is minimal editing (a few very minor cuts). Whatever the truth may be the point is that Lie Jie is truly masterful guitarist and no gimmicks where used to make it seem so.
@archive000116 жыл бұрын
All these LI Jie clips are from an education VCD which is for demostrating to guitar students. It's originally from an education program on TV teaching guitar. So she's not even supposed to "show", because she's demostrating guitar techniques as instructed by her teacher. The audiance is supposed to be students watching and learning, not just entertaining.

good catch! it's really strange probably it was cut from multiple recordings, and the sound was from an other one at that part
@guitarvalvo13 жыл бұрын
@robdrewupei the #6 string is tuned down to D. she is supposed to play an E (fret 2) and she clearly doesn't, and therefore overdubbed it. Don't get me wrong, I think she's amazing. Recording is very difficult and some overdubbing is expected. don't take it so personal.

This is a technique i use today. It takes a couple years to get it. And she tunes her low E down because that is what is needed for the piece.
@baksteen12313 жыл бұрын
yes it appears to be fake or overdubbed. the 6th string is tuned to D all song. From 2:16 to 2:22 the open 6th string is suddenly an E and some seconds later a D again.... i don't know if the whole video is fake or overdubbed but that part is for sure.

I play guitar and piano but I dont play this song, and I am not a professional musician. Anyway this is my observations: At 0:17, she plucked 3 notes with thumb, open 5th string, open 6th string, then 3rd fret 6th string, ie A E G. At 2:17, she plucked 2 notes with thumb, open 5th string, then open 6th string, ie A E. They all sound exactly what she plucked. I dont hear or see any D on open 6th string. Am I missing something here?
