I don't like this series. I think it is absurd to make Yip Hau Yee die just because they broke up in real life. And there is a complete break off from how the 2nd series ended - what happened to Chong Kemg Seng and Yip Hau Nam. Also Kau Fu Tung was already dating the neighbour, and suddenly he is single again.

I think this is due to more action demand from the public rather than the story itself.I fully agree the first two series have great stories.

88 was by far the weakest of the 3 series. Even Tony Leung seemed like he was mailing it in with his over the top acting. What made 84 and 85 great was his subtle acting ability.
