This is ancient but just in case anyone reads this theres actually a way to shut off bus 3+4 without menu diving, so they can actually be used as performance effects (at least turning on and off, tweaking parameters still requires that diving). Press the enter knob and bus fx to toggle it on and off, pretty handy.

I used to do this on the MPC 2000 and it works fine as long as the kick is dropping at the same time as each chop but it’s never a true side chain

Thx for the video. Would be cool if both the 404mk2 and Mv-1 got native side-chain compression in the next firmware 😉 Especially the last method with the envelope does sound like real side-chaining though. Thx for the tips.

i dont know if that works exaclty bcause i dont own a 404 but.. couldnt you use a longer sample, then chop it into parts everytime the kick hits, then give each part an envelope and then resample it again?

Is it possible to bounce single stems with the master effects applied? My plan is sth like this: I record my samples through the sp 303 into my mpc live where I do most of the work. Then I want to record and apply effects on the stems on the 404 mk2 and then finalize it in my DAW for streaming etc I guess the best way would be a multitrack mixer like presonus studiolive or a tascam model but I‘m running out of Money 😁

I've had mine for a week and a half now and its amazing. But one thing i can't figure out: where is the input/output monitoring? i can't figure out when its clipping. The fx limiter on the OG was also key in giving that 'fly-lo' ducking sound for a lack of a better name for it. In the OG 404 you could choose to have your fx 'limited', so if you'd go overboard it would add another way of compressing. The OG vinyl sim is similar to the 303 with the compression, and i always had a nice sound combining this and just cranking up the kick. But with the 'red LED' gone, its a mystery how my music isnt clipping like crazy yet. Does the Mk2 have a sniper Limiter on the master or something?
@LiamKillen2 жыл бұрын
You can lower the lvl of individual pads now which helps with this a lot
@bagoftrix2 жыл бұрын
@@LiamKillen yeah but I mean there seems to be no metering similar to the red LED which would light up when the signals too hot… but I haven’t got it to clip really so it almost feels like there is a limiter on the final signal, might have to test this, just thought it was odd there’s not even an input signal meter.
@levihockey26522 жыл бұрын
@@bagoftrix the input monitor is the EXT SOURCE button which changes to red if it is clipping. There is also a limiter and clipper on the master output

Yo man what about setting the melody samples and the kick only to bus 2 with the 303 comp and the rest on bus 1 and in the master u have the normal compressor not to heavy for a glue compressor kinda effect? could work? btw yeah cremacaffè guys are amazing they sent me some skins and gadgets too :) really cool stuff!

can you layer more than 1 sound onto a pad?
@oba47382 жыл бұрын
I asked a different KZbinr, it’s not like the mpc style layers but you can “pad link” a bunch of pads to all hit once you hit one of the pads which kind of acts like a layering from an MPC.

I feel like side chain is more of a meme these days, with tons of people kind of doing the opposite of what compression is for, which for smoothing out dynamics. Instead, it's used used often to completely remove dynamics and draw attention to itself when it was always made for being 'invisible'. IDK, I'm an old fart. I like my songs to have it's quiet parts actually get quiet so that the loud parts actually contrast and get louder, not just 'different with more shit going on'. :P That said, nice tips. Even if people use them in ways I find disatisfactory and annoying, there will be folks that use it for the common good of nice dynamics in music!

Rule are there to be broken I think it's genius
@heavysystemsinc.2 жыл бұрын
@@EARART The rules are only good when broken if breaker understands why the rule is there and why it's a good idea to break it. it's one of those things where you learn the right way to do it as a foundation first so you have a knowledge of how to break them properly and with purpose rather than just fumblefucking around with no idea in the first place. I get the impression a lot of side chain abusers have no idea what side chain or compression really did in the first place, they're taught the 'wrong' way first with no reason as to why it became a thing in the first place. Anyway...always learn everything and the 'proper' and traditional ways...it makes it easier to break rules in more effective ways!
