Dang!! I'm American but I'm first generation, my two parents are from the island, and for some reason when I first saw Lianne perform, there was just something about her. I said, I BET she's Jamaican. And here we are. It's something in the way she holds her self.
@Delboy0
@Delboy0 8 жыл бұрын
I just don't get why people are prouder to say they are from the islands than African. There is no such thing as black people from the islands. They are only there because of slavery. It is nothing but colonial programming where they made slaves feel better than the black people they couldn't control.
@ghostie7790
@ghostie7790 8 жыл бұрын
Delboy0 you are correct and I agree with you. However I said nothing of the sorts. I know that all the black people on the islands and in the rest of the world are there because of the Diaspora. I have pride in Africa as it's our home country. However I have no idea where in Africa my particular Jamaican family came from and my family has no idea either. I can only identify with Jamaica. I know that country. I do not know what country in Africa we are from. I'm not bashing Africa in any shape or form, and I'm not, as you say, "prouder to be Jamaican over an African" Never said that. Don't know what you're reading, because it is not what I said.
@Delboy0
@Delboy0 8 жыл бұрын
ghostie7790 You can take a DNA test for $70 that can not only tell you what African country you are from, but what town and tribe. No one can tell you how to feel, if you feel Jamaica is your origin you are buying to into British slave colonialism. I remember seeing Jamaican claim the Britain was the motherland for Jamaicans.

@@Delboy0Your comment is more than 6 years old but I would strongly not recommend that anyone take a DNA test to 'know' where they're from. For me, the only identity that matters is spiritual. You don't think that giving $70 US to a European company and giving them your DNA to 'find out where you are from' is colonial? The DNA test results are not accurate. The results you receive are based on the closest match that is already in the database. It's a comparison and an estimate, it's not absolute. Moreover, you have no idea how these companies will use this data in the future. It will be used for the new slavery, and people will go back into bondage again. Also, it's not like Africans didn't sell each other into slavery. There's no ideal place anywhere in the present, past, or future. Ancestors were not saints and perfect people. The British and the Europeans did not rightfully own the land that is called Jamaica or the rest of the Caribbean islands. People are free to claim Jamaica as their country of birth. There's a lot of history there that many Africans today had nothing to do with.
