They always said that Betty White was the show's saving grace: she had the greatest talent for telling the craziest lies with a straight face and an innocent smile. She became a regular when her husband Allen Ludden took over as host in the later version. And justifiably so.

His daughter, in her book, says "I think, quite simply, he did Liar's Club because he thought it would be fun, a change of pace. And it was." she also said that "From what I now understand, he was paid relatively little, even by the standards of the time."

I didn't believe it when I read Rod was a game show host! That is so offbeat! And loved Pia's reference to the long gone Playland at the Beach in San Francisco. And of course there's beautiful Betty White ... :)

Pia is known for her work in TV news. She worked at KGO (San Francisco) and then at WCBS and WNBC (New York). She'll turn 79 on 20 September (born in 1938).

Someone gave me the disc which had this whole episode. I blew it through almost the whole thing. The contestants got nothing right either but, I figured the last one. I was playing incorrectly btw. At least I would had been the only winner.
