Alex so totally made this show. Without him, it'd be just another run-of-the-mill sitcom.

@Mark Guerrero He would've had another 2-3 years of Spin City that's for sure. Then do some more movies and then maybe another great sitcom after that.

@Mark Guerrero They're all grown up now and not living at home anymore, it wouldn't have been the same thing. If they found a way to make it work then that would be great but not just for the sake of it.

Fox wasn't even the first choice, it was originally supposed to be Matthew Broderick.
@crepesoftime3 жыл бұрын
@Mark Guerrero I'm sure you mean "Ferris Bueller". But I'm not sure I'd say that, he's known for some other films, "War Games", "Glory". But I do think he would not have portrayed Alex as well as Fox did. So they made the right choice.

Back when both sides were shown on TV and the media and networks didn't cram only 1 side down your throat. I miss the 80's.

Michael J Fox always talked about Ronald Reagan on Family Ties . 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 I am battling health issues to Mike and we are the same age and I sit here praying for Stem Cells to help me out too. God bless you Michael and I hope one day Stem Cell can help you out with your illness. Your like a Brother to me .

I love that Alex is talking young kids in this scene. It’s like art imitating life, in Australia the House Speaker in Parliament has to deal with children everyday. 😅

Are you kidding? Alex Keaten would LOVE Trump.

Alex wasn't a racist...so Trump was a no go for him. Not to say he would have voted for Hillary...but Alex cared about people. He either votes for Gary Johnson or writes in Jeb Bush.

@Stan Gable Doubtful. Most fiscal conservatives hate Trump because of his vulgarity and hard-line stances against illegal immigration.
@hotwax93764 жыл бұрын
@@Pksoze Most Trump supporters aren't racist either. Look at how many two-time Obama states he got and then tell me he got elected because of racism. That said, I suspect someone like Alex Keaton would gravitate more towards Libertarians over Trumpian Republicans, and Democrats or anti-Trump Republicans as well.

I agree! A show where the parents were liberal freedom fighters who raised their kids right and put up with their oldest child's fairytale views of what a Republican is (in case anyone is wondering, the shows writers, as well as every other character including the actual adults, are all liberals and the character of Alex is meant to be a representation of how close-minded and naiive the right is).

Regardless of MJ Fox's character's intention on this show. The ERA..as I said.. was one where conservatives were actually conservative and didn't seem to abide by the random wishes of liberals.

More like you can be a Democrat liberal and still have respect for conservative Republicans like Alex P Keaton. You might not agree with his form of conservativism, but the person's character you can respect and have a good debate with. Both parties have fallen so far down in 30 years with the Republican Party became the Trumplican Party between 2016-2020. Michael J. Fox even said Alex wouldn't had supported Trump.

De Facto language. Why do we call tissues "kleenex" when that brand is a minority of all the makers? At any rate, we're calling them "Progressives" now so that they can't bog down conversations with "buhhhh..the founding fathers were liberals!" static.
@shawnflynn70987 жыл бұрын
It was FDR who wanted to push a more socialist agenda through while avoiding the term "socialism," as it was a pretty dirty word at the time. So he basically adopted the term "Progressive Liberalism" and the term "liberal" has stuck. It's more accurate to use terms like "leftists" or "progressives" when describing the modern mainstream left.

Actually MJ Fox was involved in an altercation with Rush Limbaugh over politics. Alex's character is actually meant to poke fun at most republicans (this scene making fun of republicans brainwashing children) but, as a sitcom, not necessarily meant to be taken seriously.
@nancyhey10126 жыл бұрын
I agree, the character was intended to poke fun at a certain kind of Republican, the kind that forgets that many people care about more than just making money and gaining status, but issues of social justice and fairness.
