I agree with you. In high school I was in a marketing club called DECA. in the 9th grade I lobbied congress with my club for fire safety awareness on college campuses. We met two surviving seaton hall students who was caught in a campus fire. It was inspiring. I knocked on the late John McCains door… he was too busy to talk to us lol! However, lobbying can make a difference

What you say is very positive and a great idea. I believe the problem with Liberia not developing like it should is because a lot of Liberian are not proud of their country. They do not see the abundance and productivity like these foreigner do that go in and basically steal from them. Many people have lived in the USA and see the price of going to the USA. We pay to work, by getting a work permit, and pay to be in the country without a Green card or citizenship. Yet, the Liberian government basically let these people in our country for free with out and extensive payment. Liberia let these foreigner from all over come an basically steal their resources because Liberia does not seem to know its own worth. The Liberian nation can make so much money just by having those people in their county. Many Liberians are scared to buy property in Liberia because they had their money stolen by fellow Liberian who were supposed to help. How often do you hear your fellow Liberian saying something positive about each other. Liberian expect the worse of each other, and until we learn to unite and stop stealing from each other and actually see the greatness in our nation and our fellow Liberian, I'm sad to say these other countries will come and take all our resources, depleting our Liberian nation while building their nations greater than ours. If you are truly legitimate, good job and I pray that more like you come out and love their home land.

The way we react to foreign businessmen, etc is far different from how we react to our own own Liberian business owners especially those from the diaspora, who wants to invest in LIB, and provide job opportunities get discouraged and end up closing the business, it’s sad.

Lobbying as a means of influencing politicians or public officials is not without its reciprocation. You indicated in your piece that "in Liberia, we do understand that those public officials or politicians you intend to lobby to advance your interests will need some reciprocation." In the United States, Lobbyists reciprocate by financing politicians or public officials' election campaigns. Pay-to-play exists everywhere. However, the difference between Liberia and the United States is that in the US the lobbyist's financial contributions go to the politician's or public official's campaigns that are reported due to the Federal Election Campaign Act, not in the politician's pocket to keep and not use it for the intended purpose. You made a good point because Liberians need to be pragmatic when it comes to lobbying their government to address their causes, whether business interest or national endeavors, it is their constitutional right. Lobbying is not as bad as it may sound.

I disagree with the use of Lobbying the government. The use of Government subsidies and partnerships should be the path. America’s current issues are a result of lobbying.
