To me, this means that I made the right decision when I told my sister and my family to basically f off. I am currently in a rebuilding phase in my life and I am putting the pieces of my life back together. I am not in a negative space. I am just doing my best to protect my peace and to focus on my goals. There is a situation with my brother, and my family wants my input. I have tried to give my input in the past on the situation, and it was not received. So I took myself out of the situation. Now that I have removed myself, everybody is upset. They’ve called me selfish, however, I see it as a compliment. To me, selfishness is just a form of self preservation. At least in this context. I am the oldest child and the oldest daughter. My family has expectations of me that I never agreed to. To be frank, I can’t even meet the expectations that they have set out before me. Even if I could, I wouldn’t want to. They are so entitled, and they feel that I am obligated to give them my energy. I have carried the load of so many for a long time. Now I am focusing exclusively on myself. My sister and I fell out behind the situation and I think my cousin is mad at me too. I honestly could not care less though not a single person has asked me if I’m actually doing OK and while I am doing OK, it’s the principle for me. Everybody wants me to be there for them. But nobody can answer when I ask who is supposed to be there for me.

Yes this resonates with me . I'm a single parent retired . I have a 24yr old son and he's not being responsible. He's very smart and intelligent but somehow has gotten off track. Very disrespectful do not take things seriously with me. I gave him responsibility to help pay utilities bills I even help him with getting a vehicle and he's responsible for his note and insurance. He said that he could handle it but now its a problem. I don't want to put him out and don't want the vehicle repo because my credit will be damaged. He seems not to care at all.
