I am new to LibreOffice. I've watched several of your database(base) videos. By dividing each tutorial into specific segments concise, succinct and well paced clear dialogue, you have done a great job in explaining and demonstrating how to create and use each element of LibreOffice database.Thanks. BTY, I have subscribed to you channel

Awesome! I was away for a while; and now I'm back to learn more stuff. I subscribed; because I found your content super useful, highly organized bite-sized videos of information; where you don't overwhelm a person with EVERYTHING; but say something like... "Don't worry about that now... we'll go over it in future lessons." - Which really helps me focus on what I came here to learn. In my life, I'm always trying to answer very specific questions. I start out by learning the general layout; but then I tend to drill down into the details and need to know certain things before I can move on. I often learn stuff on the fly as I'm creating some project to help with my goals. You do all this and more. The other thing I liked, was how you showed the WRONG way to do something.... which woke my brain up; and then explained why it was wrong and what the right way was. Often, people will show you the right way; but not show you how you can get tripped up; which, if they do... then they don't know what went wrong! Peace, Love and Light Be well, ~ Dave M. ~

Thank you FrugalComputerGuy. So much of you explanation is deliberate: your pacing, your mouse movements, your Midwestern U.S. pronunciation, and the step-by-stepness within each lesson, and from lesson to lesson. Finally, I have found my database instructor! I have wanted to make a database for such a long time that I'm having to restrain myself from trying to make my own before I understand the essentials. I am going to follow your lessons, as is, first!

Excellent news! I wonder if you would not get more views if you incorporated Open Office into the titles. I'm a fan.

Mari Vega That’s a good idea, but LibreOffice has had a lot more improvements (than Open Office) made to it over the last few years. It’s possible some of the features will not work in Open Office. I didn’t want to have to test everything on two systems - that is why I didn’t include Open Office in the title. Thanks for the suggestion.

Oh, I didn't realize they deviated from each other, other than the names and apparent slight formatting differences. Good to know, too, in case I encounter something not transferable. I'll know then that I need to swap using OO for LO. Cheers!

Hi! Thanks for the videos, very clear. I'm doing a form now, but I can't seem to be able to start from scratch with the form in design form (linking the database to the form and then being able to drop the fields.) I can do that with the wizard. But is there a way to do it without using that.?

Quite interesting and very well explained I have been searching for a new database to replace Lotus approach which I have been using for 20 years and more, but now not having been update its well outdated and I need to replace, I noted some very similarities to Approach, what I love about approach is I can do a search in any field by highlighting the field and Contrl S , can this do that?

The shortcuts Libre Office Base offers Ctrl+Alt+Right for the "Next Form" and Ctrl+Alt+Left for the "Previous Form" don't work. I quickly assigned new, working ones, but still, it's weird to offer shortcuts that don't work, although, maybe, it has something to do with how my computer is set up.

You have great videos. I was working on a form and want to do calculations in the form. Example: I put in the persons name and then put in the quantity that they purchased, the price each one costs, the shipping charges and then a total. I want all this added up and put in the total box. I want this to be done in forms and not queries. I can get this to work in queries but can't figure out how to do it in the forms. Is this possible?

Hi, thanks for all the videos, they are very educational. I have a specific question. How can i make a report with data that i entered in the from with combo boxes. I would like to make a print button in the form, so i can print out the data entered, i would also like to have the data formated in a way so it can be printed out as a letter of some sort.. Thanks in advance

+Jan Rolih I believe that will require a macro (those were not covered in this series). Perhaps someone in the LibreOffice Forums can help you - they are at: en.libreofficeforum.org/forum/apps/base

How do you create the same employee records, where search with last name can be performed with point-n-click. Create an A-Z index placed on left column. Next column displays Index all employees with that last name ("D" in your example). The right column displays the records of the particular emmployee selected. Just make the search process much simpler and faster. Appreciate your reply.

I believe what you are asking can be done, but that will require a macro. Macros are not covered in this tutorial series.

what I am referring to, is the duplicate form of this product from ananquest. I have been using MyDataBase for many years now and quite happy with it. But they offer only Windows version. LibreOffice/Base will enable me to have same database in Linux version as well. If you could build a Tamplet to that affect, it would be wonderful www.avanquest.com/USA/software/mydatabase-home-and-business-106193 thanks LM
@MichaelsTechTutorials10 жыл бұрын
FreedomToPeople I’m sorry, I am not familiar with the avanquest database. You could have a LibreOffice Base document in a shared storage (like DropBox) and updated it from Windows or Linux and use standalone forms from both desktops. I don’t know if LibreOffice can read the MyDataBase database, if LibreOffice can read the database, you may be in luck. Your other option is to see if you can run MyDataBase in Wine.
@FreedomToPeople10 жыл бұрын
TheFrugalComputerGuy Thanks again for the reply. The Application program is not that important as the format of the database . I can export the records from MydataBase into cvs format, and from there into Libreoffice spreadsheet.But importing it into LO database with same indexing as in MyDB is the tricky part. I wish to use LibreOffice to create the same database as I have in MydataBase, which I designed it myself. (Avanquest does allow such provision). I am convinced that, there are many people who would like to create a basic address-book for their own use. (i.e. first, last name. address city state phone etc). A database with indexes as I mentioned above. (Instead of "employee record # in your tutorial - use A through Z). Unfortunately I can't find such template in LO's vast library. If you could create such basic template where people can download ( perhaps modify the fields to suit their needs) and fill out each record- that would be a wonderful A database with 7 or 8 fields, with the index to which I mentioned above. thanks

hi sir i am following ur videos. thank u for uploading base videos. i have 2 listboxes viz lststates, lstcities. lstcities depends upon lststates. on the form there are other fields too...like name, qualification...etc i will enter name, qualification and i will select a state from lststates listbox. Depending upon state i selected from lststates listbox, the list values of lstcities should change. when i click on save button all the values should be saved to the database. say for ex 10 records i have added. when i open the form , record1 should be displayed and this record should be editable . after updating the record when i click on save icon it should be saved to the database. when i clink on next record the record2 should be displayed......and it should also be editable.after modifying the record clicking on save icon, it should be saved to the database. kindly make a video on this concept...............

I request this in view that the youtube standard license does not legally allow downloading of the videos under this license. Sure of your favorable answer I say goodbye.
