Hi Sean, Just found your videos today and I am quite impressed. No flash, no drawn out history of this and that. I am a retired business software developer. Started as computer operator in 1969 and didn't look back. It's been 20+ years since I have coded anything. Looked for some guidance on Base and found you and a one other gentleman. Thank you for taking the time to give back shall we say, your experience as a programmer, to those who want to learn but don't have the resources to help them. Regards.

Hi Sean, great stuff here. If you have time, I need to have an input filter when entering new records in the table. The use case is this. We need to enter hardware into a database. So we will grab a bag from the shelf, and enter it into the base. But if that size is already there, I don't want to create a new record. Does this make sense?

Does the database upload and work with your website/wordpress? I'm creating a new website a,d have ALWAYS wanted to harness a dabases power ... alas, until now, I never prioritized learning databases.

can I use this as a shared database with user privilages. Ie girl on the phone can book jobs and see what she only needs to see, my lads get what they need to see and I have full admin and see everything? I run excel and an old one at that, i didn't use access as I used excel to drag other excel files, all hard coded as in a way, but need to expand or port my excel 2000 stuff to an open software and linux based system. Did you ever get to play with a wang when you was a kid?

Hi Sean, I’m really new to data bases. I’m a PT and wanted to create a database that contains nots for my clients so name, address, I’d number and notes etc. I want to build this and create a front form to use to input my data. Is this possible? Many thanks Richard

@@rdrstrengthconditioning757 Hi Richard That's totally possible and quite easy to do (in the sense that it's what databases are designed to do). This link here has all my LibreOffice base videos in order from beginner onwards kzbin.info/www/bejne/oWe7hqOsjtyohsk

@@rdrstrengthconditioning757 Richard, give me an idea of what you want to do with your personal training business database, maybe it'll give me an idea for my next video. eg Record Clients personal details, classes/programs enrolled in, current fitness etc?

Hi Sean. Is there any other front end we could use instead of LibreOffice. Like a backend in Base and a front end with a web browser. Thank you for your videos.
@BusinessProgrammer3 жыл бұрын
To be honest I wouldn’t use base as a back end especially if I’m thinking of doing something serious like a web front end. Instead I’d use base as a front end to MySQL. Something I intended do some videos of… With MySQL as a backend you Nan have base, Access, Excel, c#, web-JavaScript etc as front ends. Base can be very useful for small to medium projects, that you can later scale to other platforms.

Coding is very involved!
@BusinessProgrammer26 күн бұрын
Not sure what you mean. you can build a database without coding, won't be able to do all the magic that coding gives you, but if you really want to do something it's all learnable.

@BusinessProgrammer with Access coding for button click is one line of code, so simple. Have plenty of time on my hands so looking into Base as a free alternative to Access. Retired in 2017 due to physical issues derived from a stroke I had then. Using Access 2007 for persoesnal purposes and as something to keep my brain active. Have created Base tables and forms in the past, but only recently discovered basic coding for it. That has resparked my interest in the product.
