@danielringl85014 жыл бұрын
they're quite different in design: the Zuul always has this choppy modern metal feeling to it due to a fixed release time. The Key and Gate adjusts all it's parameters to your playing in real-time and thus reacts to sustained notes a lot better while still being capable of the choppy, modern staccato stuff :)

Keith Axisa That's super easy, they pop out with a little tap of a screwdriver, just lightly glue the new one in place, if it's too high just put it flat onto a sheet of sandpaper and remove some height at the bottom

@Rushtallica2 жыл бұрын
Very old comment, I know, but in case any may come along with similar thoughts, It may be that a pedal that is NOT true bypass and that has a decent buffer, and that's plugged in but not even turned on may provide a similar buffering effect.

How long of cables do you use? I was using a 20ft cable and noticed my guitar was dead straight into my scarlett 8i6 gen 3 and so I found a rock Monster Cable that was 12 ft I had, and it made a difference, now I'm wondering if this is the issue everyone is having with their Helix or Helix Native, people share presets and their tone is too bassy or dull. I wonder if a 10ft cable as well as a buffer before the interface is the ultimate unlockable..
@MilianMalivukMusic4 жыл бұрын
At home I use 3 metres or even just 1,5 plus a very small patch cable. Guitar jack cables are unbalanced cables, they do loose quality the longer they get, but I don't think the difference is noticeable between 3 or 1,5m though.

It sounds great but explain to me why I wouldn't just buy an NS2 to get the same effect if they do the same thing? Is this pedal coloring somehow or what is it doing differently from the boss?
@danielringl85015 жыл бұрын
the output buffer is much more sophisticated - it doesn't color the sound itself, it just alters the output impedance so that any signal loss is avoided. You will not get the same effect out of the boss which has - due to it's de-essing purpose - more of a blanket over the amp effect. Also the gating on the K&G works by far better!

Hey man! I love your channel! A question, do you record DI first and then "re-amp" with Overloud or do you record the amp directly inside of Overloud? I'm just curious what effect having a noise gate in front might have on a DI-recording (I don't own a physical noise gate myself so I can't really experiment) :)
@MilianMalivukMusic5 жыл бұрын
Joakim Nordgren I record DI in Logic Pro X, so in fact I could always dial in a new sound if I want to (very handy for mixing)
@nordgrenjoakim5 жыл бұрын
@@MilianMalivukMusic Okay! I was basically wondering how big of a difference it makes recording a DI-track with a physical noise gate compared to using a digital one (in an amp sim). I feel like the digital noise gates are usually pretty bad. Also, could it be risky recording DI with a noise gate in front in case you might cut too much of the frequency spectrum out? It might just be me worrying too much though :P

So it's a Fortin Zuul with buffer? Or is it?
@danielringl85014 жыл бұрын
Nope - it's a completely different approach than the Zuul (and has also been on the market quite some time before the Zuul): the Zuul has fixed parameters to make the one knob operation possible while the K&G has a quite sophisticated envelope follower in the key/side-chain part which adjusts all parameters to your playing in realtime. In direct comparison the difference is huge: the Zuul is a good pedal with wisely chosen parameters but is a solution with a lot of compromises in operation as well as in that you need an external splitter to use the key input!
@niklashallberg44224 жыл бұрын
@@danielringl8501 OK...cool! :) Thnx for the reply/info. Will keep this pedal definitely on the list when looking to update from my TC Sentry at some point. Nothing against the Fortin stuff but kinda wanna support the smaller builders when choosing my new gear. Cheers!

@@niklashallberg4422 Thanks as well :) Yeah - Fortin makes some quality stuff, no doubt! It's just hard for smaller builders to compete due to their huge marketing budgets - especially when it comes to YT which is a pay-to-play thing. @danielringl85015 жыл бұрын
@@NeZversSounds and except it has first been released in 2016 (so even before the Zuul^^) - also one major difference is that it's parameters are adjusted in real-time by your playing through an envelope follower (and a quite sophisticated one): if you play staccatos the hold/release time is automatically super short, if you play sustained notes the fade envelope stretches as well! That actually makes it a completely different kind of pedal, as it's not an actual gate but a noise reduction system, the cock blocker (as well as the Zuul or a lot of other pedals that popped up subsequently) is just a pedal interpretation of the built-in gate from different Marshall amps: fixed attack, hold & release values and built around a THAT4301, I saw you're into building stuff yourself? Check this: www.thatcorp.com/datashts/dn100.pdf it's a great piece of information and basically what 90% of the modern gates are built around (with potentiometers swapped for fixed value resistors).

Dude, 1: if your sound is so much darker without a buffer, then your signal path is really bad 2: A buffered pedal boosts your signal whether on OR off, it is not normal that your sound brightens up so much when you turn on the gate and that is exactly what i wouldn't want a gate to do: affect my sound 3: Their site says it's true bypass, and thus not buffered It's very weird as their site mentions it's a completely transparent pedal, and they mention nnothing about EQ or a boost, while in your video the pedal legitimately sounds like you turned on a tube screamer.
