Lidar Scan Outdoors

This is a render of the data produced by my hobby build Lidar after a scan of my back garden. I’ll hopefully have the full build video ready soon! The Lidar was built using a Garmin Lite V3, an STM32 micro-controller pair, and a Warco lathe and mill. The rendering is in Unity3D. Mechanical design was in Fusion 360, PCB design in Eagle, and PCB manufacture by PCBway.

look brillant, , . is an amazing bit of work you have done, I'm a surveyor and am currently using a survey quality laser scanner to do some road works and your look just as good , even if the tolerance is a bit tigher on my scans, hahah. can wait to see more.

Hi Dylan - thanks for the comment! I’ve just about finished a video that shows how it’s all done. It’s about 20 minutes long and mainly covers the mechanics (as this is a machining channel), but also gives a high level overview of the electronics and software. If I get enough requests, I'll do another more detailed video on the electronics. Hopefully it won’t be too long before it’s ready. I’ve just got a few things to sort out and the final edit to do!

hey guys, I would like to use Lidar instead of my video surveilance system, because this one is forbidden towards public spaces. In principal I would love to use the system for the protection of my lawn, thus against dogs using my fence as their pissing ground. Surely this may sound very strange, but all what I want to do is to use are high pressure water fountains, not to harm any animal, just to scare them off, so without any video system. Do you think this can be possible with Lidar?
