But wouldn't the newly pushed sand be washed away by the ocean waves in a matter of hours or even days?

It completely depends on the geographics of the area, the surrounding bathymetry, how dynamic the area is, the design of the beach, what type of material is naturally there, what type of material is being pumped or trucked in, what the tidal cycle is in the area, whether or not the place experiences hurricanes or severe weather, and more. But typically it lasts anywhere from weeks to several years. Perhaps 1-1.5 years average.
