Correction I wanna make as pointed out by @KiyoshiKenji881 5:06 I show an example of was I thought was a stunlock->death combo, but you can actually roll out of that if you mash dodge. Rolling out from prone is something that I don't think should be locked behind an upgrade, but I just wanted to correct something they rightly corrected me on.

I never understood the argument of "This game is just like [insert game], why would I play it if I've already played [insert game]?" Because nobody would be saying that if this game had the Fromsoft logo attached to it. It's just another quality game in the same genre. It doesn't have to do anything groundbreaking or genre-defying to deserve attention; it just as to do what it sets out to do well, and Lies of P definitely seems to succeed in that regard. I'm glad you gave it a shot, and that you came to appreciate the less-obvious design choices that distinguish it from Fromsoft's games. A lot of genres and subgenres need games like Lies of P to help players realize the world of great games that exist beyond their beloved big-name IPs.

100% agree! I've been saying this for awhile now, soulsborne is one my favorite genres and people don't give these games enough credit and treat them unfairly, like of course these games don't feel or play the same way as Dark Souls, because they're not Dark Souls, they're their own thing Like you can't just play a bunch of Street Fighter, then hop onto Mortal Kombat and expect to be just as good at that game, just because 2 games are in the same genre doesn't mean they have to play or feel exactly the same way, all games, regardless of genre, all require you to take your time to learn them individually and understand their own unique mechanics instead of treating them all as universally the same And the real irony is, where many people say most soulsborne games are bad because they don't feel like Dark Souls, people were saying Lies of P feels exactly like Dark Souls, and thus is nothing more than a simple clone or knockoff and a bad game, like the hypocrisy is unreal and shows signs of major gatekeeping by people who think FromSoft are the only ones capable of making these kinds of games

I feel like soulsborne as a genre is very under appreciated, one of the biggest complaints I see is how none of these games feel or play like Dark Souls or Bloodborne, which I think is an extremely dumb argument Does Metroid feel the same as Castlevannia? Does Street Fighter play exactly like Mortal Kombat? Does DOOM and Call of Duty play identically? Of course not, just because 2 games are part of the same genre doesn't mean they have to be exactly alike, other soulsborne games don't feel like Dark Souls because they're not Dark Souls, they're their own thing, and thus need to be viewed as such Demons Souls'/Dark Souls may have created this style of game, but that doesn't mean they're the only way this style can be done, at this point there are so many great games with this formula, yet all go for their own unique thing with unique gameplay mechanics, combat styles, stories and settings, and feel to them, my personal favorites outside of FromSoft being Code Vein and Thymesia, Nioh is really fun too minus its annoying looter based mechanics, all of these games warrant being classified as their own genre at this point, and I say the term "souls-like" should be dropped in favor of "soulsborne" instead because the name "souls-like" still makes these games sound like clones of each other when they really aren't Soulsborne is one of my all time favorite genres of games, and I really wish people gave the non-FromSoft games more of a fair chance, because there are truly some great games here and people are missing out

When I think about it, I don't think there's anything wrong with mimicking the "Dark Souls" style of gameplay, since that gameplay in itself is engaging and fun to play already. Souls-likes can kinda just end up being "More Dark souls", and Dark souls is fun. Though I can also understand the burnout. There's a lot of games that try to be "souls-likes" without realizing what made those games fun to begin with. You can have the mechanics, but if you don't do anything with those, you end up with a hollow experience. To be honest, Lords of the Fallen is a good example of "I wanna be a souls-like" but only putting in base mechanics and nothing else, giving you a clunky and un-fun experience. A fun Souls-Like is more than it's base mechanics, just like Pinocchio was more than the parts he was made of.
@sl1ppey Жыл бұрын

I won't be playing Lies of P, I personally get more enjoyment out of a second hand experience in these cases, so thank you for your perspective. (Also I'll snag the OST and add it to the Infinty Playlist TM) Soulslike games aren't for me, I'm more of a roguelike guy. In soulslikes, the game breaks you until you learn how to play, then you beat it, roguelikes can break you just the same, but at some point after beating them... you get to break them back.

you can dodge out of the red down smash from the fire shovel guy a lot of ppl are bitching about not being able to roll out of stuns and the show clips of this enemy.just makes it feel like ur venting frustration without any research behind it
@sl1ppey Жыл бұрын
Two things: 1.) The game presents fury attacks as something that *cannot* be dodged in the tutorial (even though they can a lot of the time) so naturally many players, including me, are going to try to deflect it instead of dodging because the game told us it's something you can't do. It's contradictory and could be explained better. 2.) It still doesn't feel good to be stunlocked to death in any game. I can't think of another scenario in the entire game where getting hit once at near-full health, even from a fury attack, translates to you dying unless you're surrounded by enemies (in which case the player would probably deserve to die by that point). I'm sorry you took my criticism of the game that way, but I also don't see what 'research' would suit you other than the fact that the game presents information to the player that is literally half-untrue. It's still a great game and I love it, but I'd be doing it a disservice by overlooking its flaws.

@sl1ppey Red attacks cannot be dodged(unless u have the boss item) .And to the second one yeah I agree that it doesn't feel good.that Is why I am saying that once you have been hit by the downward shovel attack by the guy and you are on the ground you can dodge before getting hit by the next attack without any p-organ upgrades.and like you mentioned urself this death combo thing isn't really a problem in the rest of the game(not counting new game+).which is the reason why I pointed out that this example is invalid since it isn't true.

I think part of that low completion amount is the number of people who try it on Gamepass then put it down (or just download it then never open it). I’ve noticed a lot of games, even mainstays like MCC, have oddly low achievement unlock %’s and I think it just has to do with gamepass inflating the number of people who’ve “played” the game.
