Lies, Politics and Democracy: Adam Kinzinger (interview) | FRONTLINE

Adam Kinzinger is a U.S. representative (R-Ill). He is one of two Republicans to serve on the Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol. Kinzinger served in the Air Force and continues to serve as a pilot in the Air National Guard.
This interview was conducted by the Kirk Documentary Group’s Mike Wiser for FRONTLINE on May 18, 2022. It was filmed for a forthcoming documentary, "Lies, Politics and Democracy."

The non-partisan way he approached this interview with blunt honesty regardless of which party he was talking about really impressed me! I may not agree with all of his political views but I can't help respect him for his integrity. The US needs more people like Adam Kinzinger on both sides of the aisle! Having the courage and the desire to do the right thing no matter the cost to oneself are highly admirable characteristics and should be applauded by all, no matter party affiliation.

We raise our children this way and it’s the foundation on which I built my business with great success, to always do the right thing regardless of the outcome because I believe in the longterm it will always benefit you. When I look at todays political environment I often wonder am I the only person left that feels this way ? We need more folks in our country and in Washington like Kinzinger and Cheney that put morals and values over political gain and short term victory. Representative Rigell, I have a quick question for you that I've been wanting someone with your experience to answer. Within your own party, when there is so much cowardice or lack of integrity dominating the political landscape, why does shame not have a stronger impact on elected individuals? Is it because you're constantly surrounded by colleagues whose presence supports bad behavior for political survival? I'm thinking about the 30 or so Senators today who turned their back on supporting Vets on the PACT Act vote. Even as he sits here talking about denouncing white nationalism, he voted against the voting rights act, he voted against police reform, he voted against many civil rights issues...the main one to focus on would be the voting rights act that would ensure that our democracy would be upheld by ensuring that every citizen had access to the ballot box, and that gerrymandering would no longer be an issue in states. He voted with Trump enough times to show that he agreed with his "policies" more than he didn't.

Moderate Dem here. Would love to see Kinzinger form a third party aimed at the large center of the population. He might be conservative but there is room in the middle for a leader who is slightly right or slightly left. Probably wouldn't like all his policies but I really think he would clearly explain them and be honest. A trait lacking in most politicians. I never saw myself becoming an ardent fan of any politician but this man is brilliant. Definition of a patriot, and to see his passion listening to the officers testimony moved me. I cried on 1/6/21. Glad that you were able to break free and own your mistakes. This man is someone upon whom you can rely to make a difference. He keeps an open mind. He learns. He changes. He acts. He is willing to accept the consequences of applying what he has learnt. You should be building your country on younger people like these. You are not going to survive unless you evolve into a more thinking country, honest with yourselves, owning your history and moving FORWARD in a more inclusive way.

The republican party should have saddled their wagons on this man. Adam Kinzenger has brass balls. His ethics and moral values should be applauded. I would follow this man through a brick wall into a house fire, and I've been voting democrat since Jimmy Carter was president. We the people need more people like him in public office.

Thank you Frontline and Adam Kinzinger. I am an independent voter and one of the reasons I made that decision is because I want to vote for the right person for the job. I don't play party games. The current GOP has pretty much convinced me I will never vote Republican again. Thank you so much for taking the high road while others allowed this stain upon America. I like this Frontline Interview and sadly expect this episode to be banned because Donald Trump, Lauren Boebert, and Marjorie Taylor Greene calls this interview "Indoctrination". Wait for the Qanon wing of the RNC call for the censorship of PBS Frontline, PBS News hour and your affiliate because there are some Ex-Republicans, and current RNC Members like Adam Kinzinger + Liz Cheney who are either blowing the whistle on the Qanon Wing or investigating the January 6th, Insurrection and most likely future Insurrections in November due to congressional and Governor's elections. Also we have to deal with somebody more crazier than Bannon advising the current RNC its Cristina Pushaw. She is behind the current craziness a post Trump RNC.

Thank you, Frontline. Impeccable, thorough research. I don’t always like what i hear, or the way the story is told. Sometimes i even wish you were wrong; but i know i can ALWAYS count on the truth and validity, and objectivity of your reporting. In interviews like this, we are given an in-depth look at how a highly significant individual thinks, his motives, his decisions, etc. and then i get to make up my own mind. I cannot get over how honorable this man is and expects others to be. I agree we Americans need to have more than one way to solve the county’s problems and need more than one party in politics. Politics needs to focus on truth not holding power.
