Very much helps put this battle in perspective. The fact you had regular people helping to create this is amazing. Much respect to all the brave men, from every side, who fought on that hill. I’m in Canada, but have always had a great interest in this battle.

Don't forget, we lost Chunuk Bair after handing over the position to the British army because the Wellingtons were down to 76 able bodied men left

Also worth noting that the English army troops initially captured the hill, after using the ANZAC troops at the first wave. They captured it, handed it to NZ to hold it, and then rotated in when the NZs were relieved. At which point it was lost. It was a hopeless fight for the ANZAC/UK troopers really. Who was left holding the bag when the hill inevitably fell was going to be a coin-toss.

He points out that given the disparity in numbers and the nature of the terrain, the Allied troops were handed an impossible task. Their only hope was that the Turks would give up; and they would not do that.
