@True-Justice885 жыл бұрын
Hi Ivor, first of all, I wish to congratulate you for being called to the Bar of England and Wales as a Barrister at Law! As a Barrister at Law your qualification is recognised worldwide or at least in Commonwealth countries whereas the CLP is good only in Malaysia, am I right? And very soon you will be called to the High Court of Malaya as an Advocate and Solicitor. Before that, I wish to ask you a few questions regarding BPTC, if it is okay with you. Can I know:- 1. Was it tough to pass the BCAT? Where did you take the BCAT? 2. Do you need at least a 2:1 in your LLB to get admitted to the BPTC? 3. Last but not least, what was the average age of BPTC students at the BPTC provider you attended? How many Malaysian students and were there mature students, like really mature lol..say, above 45 years of age? Thanks and happy chambering to you!
@IvorXianZ4 жыл бұрын
Thank you Pat Hiew. It is recognised in most commonwealth countries but we would still need to take some bar papers in that particular country to be qualified as a lawyer there. U might wanna check out my BPTC video I did on my channel for the answers :)

Hi Ivor, can you explain bit about assessments and deadlines? How to meet them?
@IvorXianZ5 жыл бұрын
During the BPTC, you'll have deadlines every week, meaning you gotta do your SGS (small group sessions) homework before u turn up to class, otherwise you'd be marked as absent for not doing work even though u attended the class lol. For Advocacy, term 1 submission, u gotta submit skeleton argument a week before your advocacy. That was pretty intense given that we had to take care of the other 4 modules in term 1. For assessments (examinations), in my year, I was lucky enough to have all of 10 assessments spreaded out evenly every week. so it wasn't that bad.

Hey...would b great help if u could pls tell if any university provides 80-100% scholarship for bptc in universities in UK or canada or germany?
@IvorXianZ4 жыл бұрын
U could try to apply the 4 inns (middle temple inn and etc) where they provide scholarships but very limited chances to get BPTC scholarship. You can try tho. BPTC only works in UK so I doubt canada or germany has it. LPC has better chances of getting scholarships via tenancy where u are bound to work for them after you're done with LPC (solicitor's programme). Not a lot of them sponsor BPTC cuz it's a barrister programme

Once you do a bar vocational do you have to do the qualifying sessions in the inn and pupilage within 9 months or can you just do bar vocational then go abroad and apply that qualification ?
@IvorXianZ4 жыл бұрын
BPTC + 12 qualifying sessions THEN 9 months pupilage, if that's what you're asking
@theghostfacethriller93754 жыл бұрын
Ivor Xian Z ok so bar vocational course + 12 qualifying sessions +9 months pupilage = ready to work as barrister. Can there be gaps between these or do you need to these condensed ? Can someone take their 1 year bar vocational expertise abroad and gain the other two components abroad ? (Pupilage, qualifying sessions) .Thanks
@IvorXianZ4 жыл бұрын
@@theghostfacethriller9375 gaps for 2 years maximum after you're done with BPTC. Hmm I think you've mixed it up. Qualifying sessions are within BPTC, u gotta finish 12 qualifying sessions in order to pass.
@theghostfacethriller93754 жыл бұрын
Ivor Xian Z I get you re qualifying sessions within BPTC, I see now. 2 years maximum is also interesting. Otherwise the qualification becomes invalid. Another burning question was with the aptitude test ? Is pass marginal on the BCAT test still a pass ? It talks of pass marginal on BCAT aptitude , just wanted to make sure that’s still a pass, or whether you must strongly pass. It was my first go and a bit rushed. Thanks for help

Hi Ivor, Im actually thinking about register for BPTC in 2020, Im doing some research in the BPTC providers, would you please help to suggest if the following 3 University is better to take the course and if you dont mind, may I ask y? 1. BPP University 2. Nottingham Trent University 3. Cardiff University
@IvorXianZ5 жыл бұрын
hey Tia, glad to help but here's a disclaimer as I . only heard from my peers who did BPTC from these institutions in your list so the opinions might be subjective. 1. BPP University - depends on which branch do u go to. BPP London has the largest cohorts, hence, can be competitive for internal modules. The exam dates for each modules were kinda packed for example: 2 weeks before external modules exams, City Law and Cardiff uni students would be done with all those internal exams and can focus on the external modules like Ethics, Civil and Criminal. Whereas BPP students would still be preparing for internal exams (Conference/Advocacy etc) and left only one week to prepare for the external exams. This affects a lot on the assessments and the passing rate in my opinion. 2. Nottingham Trent Uni Only one of my mates who went to Nottingham Trent for BPTC and she managed to pass all modules on 2nd attempt - failed on external papers only 3. Cardiff Uni This may be the strictest one so far I've heard as there was once where my friend wasn't prepared for one of the SGS (tutorials), he was marked absent regardless of being present in the class but just weren't able to answer question in full. And for their Opinion Writing assessment, they weren't allowed to bring statutes or sample answers in, unlike BPP and City Law. But despite being the strictest, they have the highest passing rate amongst all I think. hope this helps and all the best of luck x

@IvorXianZ5 жыл бұрын
Time management is really important during BPTC but pro bono work is only compulsory for BPP uni, not in other BPTC institutions. Qualifying sessions: depends on which Inn you're in. Middle temple Inn has the biggest group so it might be hard to secure a qualifying sessions during weekends if you're out of London.

Congrats Ivor!!! Well done *cries*. Can you advise on how you managed to do the civil and Crim lit exams and what was your way of revising for them? xxx
@IvorXianZ5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your tears :') My way may not work for other people. For criminal, I study the Blackstone and our BPP criminal guide. For civil, I only relied on the civil guide and I bought a civil book for 20 pounds. I do notes for every chapter. But I failed civil HAHAHA So the best way is actually doing LOTS OF QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS and practice past year questions. That's the best way to get all those procedural rules into your head cuz it's impossible to swallow all those whitebook and blackstones shit. I changed my way of studying for second attempt for civil by just doing questions rather than studying I'll elaborate more on my next video! keep getting those questions lately!

whyd u choose to do the uk bar rather than clp?
@IvorXianZ5 жыл бұрын
Cuz BPTC is more practical and useful in real life practice. Even if I were not to pursue my career as a lawyer, I wouldn't feel wasted taking BPTC. It has taught me more than just law and legal practice. Especially the module Conferencing and Advocacy. CLP in malaysia is more theoretical but they'll get a better head start in legal practice compared to the BPTC graduates as they are more familiar with Malaysian legislation like Rules of Courts. so BPTC or CLP? BPTC, if u can afford. Let's put it like this: Hardwork = passed BPTC Hardwork + Luck = passed CLP I prefer getting assessed based on my hardwork than luck (due to the passing rate quota for CLP) However, it still depends on your work ethics and attitude when u start chambering. Personality plays a major role too like if u don't like advocacy or doing public speaking stuffs, CLP is a better option because BPTC would be a hell. hope this helps x
