In the late 80's me and two friends were cutting behind scene of a fair looking for a place to smoke a joint. When we heard someone say (what the fuck are you doing)when we turned around it was Big Bruce.I told him looking for a place to smoke a joint,he said well come on in.the smell of fried bacon was strong on stove was the biggest pile of bacon I had ever seen.after smoking with in his trailer he excused him saying that he was very hungry.he offered each one piece of bacon, which we gladly ate.He was very kind. R.I.P.

I love Dolly's granddaughter ( Kathy Spahn) making a stand for her grandmother. Miss Dolly Reagan is very cool. She excels as the inside talker for Dickie Brisben ,who also does not suffer fools.

Dick Brisben is one of my most favorite " very special people" .In 1967, I saw his banner " Dickie the Penguin Boy" at the county fair. The 10-in-1 show was mounted by Carl Norwood and Dick Hilburn. I was not brave enough to go into the show and just look, from curiosity. So I missed an opportunity . I wish I could have seen and talked with him.

Its amazing how attitudes have changed toward Freak shows . I see nothing wrong with them as long ad they are run well , nor do I think peoples' curiosity is a source of shame . The freak show really helps both .

It's a shame people with disabilities lost this avenue of income. Now we have nothing to make money since the Sideshow is a shame when it was our only chance.

Many of these performers disagree. This was the only way they could earn a living without being ridiculed in their daily lives. At the Sideshow they received the fame and admiration of the public more than the disgust and could be amongst their own kind. Many of them lived in sideshow trailer parks in the off season just to be remain in the world they made for themselves.

It's not sad whatsoever. Those people made a great living far beyond what disability would ever pay. They were surrounded by people who loved and cared for them. The last thing in the world they would want is pity from you.
