Probably he doesn't want to do that because of Cormier. Luke's ego would destroy their long friendship if they had to compete in the same division. It would be ruined pretty fast i think. Wouldn't look pretty... well if they were going hard... There's a sort of unwritten rule that you don't go full on with the head stuff but body and legs are fair game. Taking a leg kick for the first time if you're a noobie is a miserable experience.

Great video, great training session. The only thing that im not agreed with is hitting the head. The head is something one can't train and one's it happens to punched/kicked unconscious the head will become more sensetiver to get KO'd and never will be the same. A long carrier starts with a healthy way of training at the gym. I trained in the 80's in Amsterdam in Dutch Kickboxing and we go full speed and force but avoid the head with punches. Only kicking to the head was allowed . Another benefit is when you training and not going to the head one develops rithem and series attacks and combinations. These are pro fighters and practice kickboxing and the attacks are 1,1,2 or 1,1 Because they keep in mind the head. I know in practicing MMA its more complicated to attack in multy combinations because of the clinching and take downs there is no distance for that. I just wanted to share my opinion with no offence and i have a lot of respect for all the fighters and coaches.

Seeing a lot of comments about headgear, I'll just say this. You have to train with with people who know what they're doing and have a general respect for you, and vis a versa. Its when you aren't training with this mutual understanding is when shit gets real, i.e. the Wanderlei video.

My only critique of sparring in general is the switching of partners early in the session. It doesn't give you enough time to learn and figure out your partner, and while you want to spend the most time figuring out the person you'll eventually be fighting, you do want to work these brain "muscles" as well............. One more slight critique, I don't agree with the throwing of headkicks during no headgear sparring
