Amazing that they can fly planes in that weather and amazing how different the climate can be at the ends of a flight :-)! Slowly learning about fibreglass watching these videos! Another great video and just in time for me too! I just installed an electric anchor windlass last year before I covered my boat for the winter. I didn't have the proper tools for cutting the hole in the deck so a friend did it for me and mounted the windlass while I was away. Now that I've seen your video, I'm at the very least going to pull it and fiberglass the holes and possibly either fill them with epoxy resin and re-drill them so they're water tight, and I really like that trick with the pvc pipe for the chain.....definitely doing that one! I learn so much from your boat work vidoes thanks so much for sharing your knowledge with the rest of us! I'm always amazed when I see what you've done with and to your boat! You are quite the engineer! Some school should give you and honorary engineering degree! You are a genius!! Thanks again for sharing and as always God Bless and be safe. Bill S. s/v ODIN

Even after living in a snowy climate for all my life, I have to admit I'll still make snow angels whenever we get enough clean snow. Sadly, with climate change, snow in Helsinki is getting rarer by the year. Or rather, we have 50 cm of wet snow fall in one day (you really don't want to dive in wet snow) and it'll be gone by the next day.

My favorite episodes are the DIY ones. I would love to have seen the finished windless install from below. Did you use a mending plate to reinforce the bolts to the deck? Does the chain fall into a 5 gallon bucket or some other device to collect the sea-floor goop?

Hey Uma, love you guys since the beginning! i work on big work class Remote Operated Vehicles in the gulf of mexico which use various voltages from very high to very low in systems that operate up to and beyond 10,000 feet of water. We use all copper wire, open ended crimp connectors that we crimp, then solder and heat shrink with extremely low rates of failure due to connections. in the case of any water intrusion to electrical components we thoroughly flush with wd40 and blow dry. Not sure if it is worth the trouble to you, but that seems to work well for us. Hope you get a chance to say hi to Rincon for me. Thanks for sharing the adventure!

I just discovered your Channel. I sub to rick Moore and vegabond which are awesome. One I watch to absolutely hate is drake paragon with that pos MO the total wet blanket always trying to ruin drakes sailing dreams. Too bad he thinks it's his job to sacrifice his life to save her. Your vids showcase a perfect balance of unbridled happiness and mechanical abilities, and true friendship and appreciation for each other. Thank you both. Time to binge watch 30 hours next weekend.
@cdac167 жыл бұрын
funny you mention this, Drake was (and in a way kinda still is) one of my favorites, WAY back before mo was in the picture, his whole nature and demeanor was genuine and rooted in just being a really cool dude. My interest in their videos has diminished to almost nil with mo around , and drake has the look of a browbeaten manservant (on HIS goddamn boat no less) in a dead end marrige, a little fatter, balder and greyer. DRAKE, wake up buddy, kampai

I used to watch La Vagabonde but got tired of it. No, absolutely no comparision with Kika and Dan. 1 million$, sponsered, luxury yacht vs a 3k$, self restored - did they ever worked hard on Uma, even in winter ! - Did our two dear friends here ever EARNED their dream and journey. And still do ! Total respect and deserved admiration from my part.

Dan, *If* (never say never!) If, you ever have to give up sailing, and then find yourself in a position to get a 'normal' job, you will never have to write a CV. Just give them your KZbin address and say "take a look" 😉 Kika could easily do the same for production editing 👍
